In 1995 I remember the Army feeding us T-Rations from the 1950's. The stuff never goes bad. The green eggs looked a bit weird but they tasted good enough after you put tabasco on them.

I think our farm could get through one winter without any harvest, but no more.
Our dairy farm has about one winters supply of hay in bails(hay wrapped in plastic). We might have to slaughter a considerable amount of the cows though (all the old ones) to make it though.
In our fridge we have a years supply of meat and fish. (we slaughter our own cows/sheep to get meat and get our fish from my moms brother who is a sailor).

We would get milk from our cows and would basicly revert to subsistence farming. The loss of machinery such as tractors would be a disaster if winter would last for more than one harvest though. Our dam will be up and running in a couple of years so electricity wouldnt be a problem.

There is a river close by that has salmon and trout in it. The fjord is full of fish and we have a boat that we could sail on and fish. It would be a bad diet since it has a lot of protein but not a lot of vitamin D(is it that one that you get from vegetebles?).

Our 17 horses would come in handy with the loss of motor transportation.

The shotgun would come in handy for defence. But you would need a big rifle to hunt reindeer with.

Barnabas the barmey? As in that statue in the Harry Potter books which is in front of the door to the room of requirements?

No, it is a saint name, I dont know if harry potter has a barnabas character in it

"Saint Barnabas was an early Christian mentioned in the New Testament. His Hellenic Jewish parents called him Joseph, (although the Byzantine text-type calls him Joses, the Aramaic version of Joseph) but when he sold all his goods and gave the money to the apostles in Jerusalem, they gave him a new name: Barnabas, which means huios parakleseos (Greek: õéïò ðáñáêëÞóåùò) "son of exhortation," or 'man of encouragement.' see Acts 11:23) and connotes a prophet in the primitive Christian sense of the word (see Acts 13:1; 15:32). His feast day is June 11. In many English translations of the Bible, including the New International Version (NIV), King James Version (KJV), and New American Standard Bible (NASB), Barnabas is called an apostle. In Acts 14:14 of these translations, he is listed ahead of Paul, "Barnabas and Paul," instead of "Paul and Barnabas;" both men being described as apostles. Whether Barnabas was an apostle became an important political issue, which was debated in the Middle Ages (see below).

We buy some stuff in bulk-- like apple juice (I think I counted over 20 of the 1L containers) and freeze some stuff (8 or 9 loaves of home-made bread) and tend to stock backups of things like our peanut butter-- Add in some stuff sent by my parents ( a dozen jars of pickled beets) and 2 months is not crazy on the food front.

. . . and I don't think ANYONE in Canada stocks only 3 days food-- Anyone that has would probably have gotten a bit hungry during something as routine as a major blizzard
My parents' house always had ~2 months of food too.

Now that I'm living in the South in an apartment building in the city I'm down to about a week's worth of food. I have 3 large grocery stores within a half hour walk. Not too worried...

not sure how much food I have. I could go a while if I ate the food that I have no desire to eat, but continues to sit untouched in my cupboard.

                                cream of mushroom soup.
