Damn! People complain about bias in the press now, just imagine if the government ran it...though Bush has enough journalists on the payroll that maybe the government ALREADY control the press

From an article I read on this:

The students are even more restrictive in their views than their elders, the study says.

When asked whether people should be allowed to express unpopular views, 97 percent of teachers and 99 percent of school principals said yes. Only 83 percent of students did.

I'd expect teachers and principals to be stronger supporters of the First Amendment than the general population.

"America - the land of the free" . This is where a state-funded education is going to get you . And your cries of "But we didn't want to raise kids like this !" will be stifled by the very kids you raised . Keep it up , and you will realise that this is just the begginning . Of your socialist end .

So highschool kids were given yet another set of multiple choice questions (possibly with a "before you go home/to lunch" caveat), and these had no impact on their grades... I'm sure they all took it very seriously. Too bad they didn't interview the kids on their ideal government/freedoms, that would have been entertaining.

I bet that 1/3 of students get thier news from FOX, or it is what Pyrodew said.

Is it any wonder there is a lack of respect for the first amendment among individuals forced into schools that blatantly disrespect it? How can someone truly respect and learn an appreciation for an amendment that at best is an abstraction, and at worst is a cruel joke. Students are asked to memorize the amendment, but it is never applied to their own lives. No wonder many are misinformed and cynical.

Exactly, US schools are about accepting what your teacher said even if he/she is wrong so you get a good grade on your assignments, students don't learn how to think independently. Using your 1st ammendment right gets you detention.

whats even worse is that they use the "keep order in the classroom" as an excuse and know one cares.
