    The Holy Laptop.

    (This being, as everyone how reads Herman Hedning knows, God's own laptop, some typing on which can create an eight-armed carnivorous cadillac, or cause the Earth to become cubical.)
    Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

        I'd have the electromagnetic effectors used in the 'Culture' novels by Iain M Banks.

        They are a real general purpose tool;

        Use them as a weapon to disable any system that uses electromagnetic effects for a precise non-lethal effect, or use them to destabilize the nuclear reactions within a star for system-wide nova effects.

        Use them as a survellience device and they can even see into the thoughts of living creatures, or if you are feeling really evil you can even 'put thoughts' into their heads - great for controlling creatures/AI's

        When you add in the fact that they have interstellar range......

              Would The Death Star be considered a "gadget"?

                  I love the culture names for ships, especially the 50-km long behemoth called the "Size isn't Everything"

                    Hmmm, given the amount of money that's been made off of Windows and internet porn, wouldn't it be better to invent a version of Windows that does?

                        Incredibly tough call: Does "DeathStar fitted with a time machine, holodecks, replicators, a mind-reading device, and an invisibilty ray" count as one gadget?

                                why would anyone want a death star or weapon?

                                Are you that homicidal? I have no desire to kill people.
