  • Is it time again?

What's the verdict? Is Markos still playing? What about Burbel? King Thor doesn't seen to be active. Marko Polo is nowhere to be seen. Spekter is out.

So what do we want to do now?

Burbel was playing today, but he hit our mines and navhaz and got destroyed.

I vote to rebang the game with a higher port regen rate. What the heck do you mean by new rules? No fighting? lol....

I vote to just return to a more open game. However, looking at this, I still think that a corp size of 1 sounds like a good idea. In this game we had around 4 corps working against each other; anyone that remained by themselves was screwed.

Due to the wide variance in TradeWars knowledge in this game, and the un-balancing factor that can make, I vote that all go it alone. While the experienced players will still have an advantage, I don't think it would be as bad as if they were corped.

What does everyone think? Open game, open registration, but maybe institute a one-day wait (to prevent dupes), all have to pre-register.

Since it didn't turn out well, I say keep the treaties to a minimum; also, no treaty posting on Apolyton (If you're going to plot and scheme, do it in PM )

      Thoughts? Opinions?

Should Photons be disabled (I think that they should)

Oh, I came on today, I figured I would try and go to the 2 sectors we *used* to control; bought a merchant freighter, went express to the first one (go figure, I died - mines), then went express to the second one (go figure, I died - navhaz).

What makes a tournament game different from an open game? I figure that an open game would be more enjoyable, but that's just me.

I reckon an open game is where you have the Ferrengi running around, where there is no "end game" rule and no "knockout" rules. So a player can keep coming back regardless how many times he has been blown to bits.

            burbel,

How careless! At least a density scanner would helped.

Actually more along the lines of everybody except aeturneus starts with an ISS and a planet with a level 5 citadel

Actually, these were the kinds of issues I was hoping would be discussed in my "Can we create a just universal order?" thread.

I for one would like to see more turns. 400 a day just isn't enough, especially when you get to the planet development stage.

How about faster colonist generation on Terra to prevent the kind of shortages experienced in this game?

Keep photons but maybe make them more expensive as a way to balance their powerful effect (if that's possible to implement).

I like the teamwork possibilities that arise from corping--allows for specialization, which is beneficial. Maybe increase corp size to 3, but balance that by giving fewer turns to players when they corp (again, if that can be implemented).

Other things like increasing port regeneration rate and bigger universe are good ideas too.

keep photons. They are balanced by the difficulty in using a missile frigate and the challenge of acquiring an ISS (the only two ships that canuse them). They force people to invest in real defenses, and not just sit invulnerable behind quasar cannons.

I think the calculations I demonstrated in the other thread show that it is hard enough to invade a planet without disabling photons.

Photons bring a tactical element to the game that forces people to consider position and advanced combat techniques (both defensive and offensive) rather than rely on simply larger numbers of fighters to do the job, whatever it is.

this wouldn't have anything to do with your desire to hide from the law?

Well, yes, I admit it does, but this goes for every other evil as well. (not that there are any.)

Well, I think we should have a universe of 10,000 sectors, a max corp size of 10, 60 players, a port regen rate of 33%, 1000 turns, 3 hour time limit, photons, and a one day wait.

                            Now go bug your friends.

With our low number of player, if you up the turns you should put in Ferrengi. With a large enough playing field, around 7000-9000 sectors, the game could be interesting. That is what I am looking for in a game. Something to spend an hour or two at and to have something to do. I like alot of Alien traders, both good and evil. High port production rates and colo regeneration. The game isn't any fun searching for a shrinking number port pairs, or going to Terra to find a handful of colonists for my new planet.
