Intergalactic General Announcement Regarding the State of War Declard Against Great Beyond Industries

Yesterday a very painful and much-debated decision was made for Apolyton Co. (AC) to declare war against Great Beyond Industries (GBI).

Over the past few days, detailed and credible reports surfaced from a spy within GBI as to the exact plans for their attack against AC. Not wanting to be brought into an unjustified and cruel war, we put this spy through several tests, including providing other top-secret information that only a fellow member of GBI would know. The proof, if nothing else, is the ease with which the escape pods were found and destroyed.

There is really only one sure way to find escape pods: Have the escapee tell you where they are. We can only assume the troubles at GBI were deep and serious enough to drive him to want the utter destruction of his former team. We did not ask those details and do not care about them.

In return for his loyalty to us, however, he has agreed to assume another name and enjoy tremendous funding and protection from AC. If he proves himself over the next few weeks he may well become our 5th and last member.

We at AC would like to make it known that this decision was arrived at only after testing this spy to great lengths and after seriously debating the moral issue of attacking an entire Good-Aligned corporation.

We are well-aware that other corporations may now fear an indisciminate attack from AC. Rest assured that if your members are loyal to your cause, you have nothing to worry about.

However, faced as we were with indisputable evidence of a massive and coordinated attack against us, we took a pre-emptive strike. I can only hope our actions are understood by others, as we intend no harm where it is not warranted.

As for this spy, we wish him good luck in remaining hidden within GBI. Only he will know the right time to leave and under what pretense, but when that time comes, we will honor our pledge to him.

Sincerely and on behalf of Apolyton Co.,

    MarkG, CEO

    Bovine Excrement!!!

Be afraid people - very afraid.

Since it's going to take me too long to recoup my losses to take back what was formerly mine, here's a little info for all:

    Sector 652
Apolyton mines deployed - just cost me my Marauder to find this out
    Port: Los Alamos SSS
Planets: Utopia (Class M) ~ 4 million people, soon to have level 1 citadel
    TatooWhine (Class K) ~ 100k people

Go get 'em people. Don't trust a word that these sleazoids spout.

    Death to Apolyton...

    well, Apolyton Corp. anyway.

BTW Mark, why the sudden suicide? Are you feeling guilty about your heinous crimes against an innocent trading company? Or is it all just a part of your deep, dark master plan to rule the galaxy???

"December 7, 1941. A date which will forever live in infamy. The United States of America were suddently and deliberatly attacked by the Empire of Japan."
-Franklin D. Roosevelt, 32nd President of the United States

The Japanese empire, in light of the United States adamant refusal to lift their oil embargo or budge on their stance opposing the Japanese invasion of China, and fully realizing that war, sooner or later, was inevitable, decided to launch a "pre-emptive strike" against the Pacific Fleet stationed in Pearl Harbor, killing more than two thousand servicemen and injuring thousands more.

Am I the only one seeing history repeating itself?

Silly me, I always thought a declaration of war, to have any meaningful purpose, was supposed to come before the attack.

            Hardly plausible.

They used to all hang out in sector 652 with the protection of a bunch of fighters and some mines.

This "insider information" bit stinks to high heaven. All is hearsay. There is no solid information that the GBI will attack Apolytion Corp. A plan to attack is not the same as an attack. There are plans in each of the country of all sorts of attacks. It means nothing unless carried out.

Apolyton Corp. must be marked as opportunistic and dangerous and treated as such.

First, as for the heresay, I can only repeat: How did we manage to get ALL escape pods!!! It simply isn't possible unless somebody is giving you the coordinates. Honestly. I know you might find all of this very contrived, but this could and DID happen: One of their own told us of the plans and walked us in the front door.

I beg to differ. When North Korea kept with its nuclear power plant production in the early 80's with threats that they could then use the depleted plutonium for nuclear missiles, the US was absolutely prepared for an air strike. And knowing NK, this most certainly would have led to war. Only President Carter's "renegade" visit to NK stopped would no doubt would have been a bloody war spilling over into God knows where.

Sometimes a threat is enough...depending on how well organized and powerful. GDI had enough power to start picking us off. And given the fickle nature of this universe (did you notice that my ISS exploded today from a mis-warp?), and you can see that to provoke EVEN WITH JUST THE TALK of a coordinated attack was enough justification.

And need I remind you GDI was close to completing some major construction projects that would have further entrenched them by a matter of leaps and bounds had we waited just another week?

Truth be known, we only figured on a 50-50 chance of success even with inside information. Clearly UNIVERSAL GOOD was on the Apolyton side, and you should thank us for taking out a ruthless target before it had set its sights on you...

There is another possibility that hasn't been addressed - That being, it would be rather simple to "pick-off" the escape pods by having offensive fighters stationed in all of the sectors surrounding/connecting the main sector being attacked. This way no one gets out of the kill zone. AND there's no one left alive to let the Federation know what Apolyton Corporation is doing under the guise of the Federation name. I must admit, it is actually a rather devious plan.

Apolyton had deployed many fighters yesterday, a ship I had on auto explore ran into them and blew them up. I shouldn't have destroyed the evidence of this heinous crime.

I'm sorry for your loss Aeturneus, but we need those 1 fig toll figs for transwarping. At least Swath can be configured to pay automatically tolls. 5 credits per fig isn't too much, right?

Then a word about my 'TW2002 game ethics'. I only attack strong individuals and corporates. Good or evil, doesn't matter. One exception to the rule: I tend to kill all evils at sight..

Correct me if I'm wrong but for me this game is making alliances (corporates), waging wars and competing with each other who is going to be the strongest of all. The winner individual or corp is finally going to rule the whole universum, conquering both Ferrengi & Cylon bases and blocking the access to Stardock from everyone else. Then the game is over, winner is determined and the game is ready for reset.

Well, does this sound familiar to you? This is the basic idea of all the strategy games that are being discussed here at Apolyton. Civ1-3, SMAC, CTP1-2 and EU.. you name it. The popularity of this old text-based game here in Apolyton is easily explained as we Apolytoners are just a bunch of strategy game lovers.

So everyone, expect the game getting harder and harsher as time go by. It's just like in e.g. Civ2, just think that TW corp is one of the nations. First you make alliances and are good friends with your neigbours. Then inevitably you must cancel alliances and typically you end up conquering everyone on the planet.

One word from me regading that GBI base attack. We really don't want to sit still if we have a slightest doubt that a corp is plotting our destruction. The facts this spy told us were quite convincing. We hit first, then we start asking questions.

I hope that we made a clear enough point that there is no messing with Apolyton Co.

One thing that I would liker to say is that the rumors that Apolyton Corp scattered fighters is true.... I ran across a bunch of them earlier...

If those fighters were only for transwarping, they should be set to defensive so that they don't charge a toll.

No cause defensive fighters won't let you enter the sector unless you attack them.

I have used single toll fighters for transwarping, but I always pick them up when I am done with them.

I don't. Just leave 'em strewn around the galaxy...Never know when you might be in the game and see an apolyton corp member running over em in a colt ) But ya, at least toll allows you to pay.. lay some defensive around and you know that the person will have to destroy it. They are no good to you destroyed..
