  • First civ3 spanish unit

Which unit do you think should be created?

PS: I know some of you/us are very dissapointed with the exclusion of the hispanic world in civ3 but think for a sec what a good lesson would be to demonstrate them with facts their terrible mistake.

I guess the guys at Firaxis would consider something like conquistadores or falangists. Does anybody know the special unit for the Germans? I sure bet it's something like panzers

Tercios, of course. As a second choice, think on Conquistadores.

Tercios... that's one thing I have thought of as well... but I will bet with you for any price that's what they won't be. That'd be as if the german unit would be something like order knights or axethrowers

I see, Then I'm for the Tercios too. The most formidable war machine on Earth until the advent of the cannon in mid XVII century.

We shall argue about that some day

he, he, even the word cannon is taken from Spanish. Call it the revenge of the not-so-minnows-anymore

What kind of Persian army were you thinking about instead, Stefan?

Hehe... when I was writing that I thought of the Roman Legions and the Macedonian Phalanges, but realizing that both were beaten in battle, I came to think that only those who have been trained for war all their life would build the strongest war machinery.
My vote would go to the Sacan (otherwise known as Scythian) nomad hordes. They spent nearly all their lives on their horses, and by thinking it to be unhonouralbe to die of natural causes (i.e. not being killed in battle) they were ready to risk everything... a type of fanatism we have learnt to know in our times too well. They were the only ones who were able to defeat the rising powers of the Persians and later of the Macedonians... think of it, Alexander the Great was defeated only once in his life by some horsemen of unknown distinct with no leadership. They didn't even have battle lines but encircled their enemies virtually from nowhere, created a massacre and dissapeared again.
                        That's a long speech, I know

I vote for the Tercios as well.

And I think we can all agree that the Tercios were the most formidable war machine on Earth from circa 1525 to 1643...
