Lord Charles Monk writes to his Admiralty employers…

        The Admiralty, Whitehall 1679

The Scots in Edinburgh are still stubbornly holding out. Several of our cannon have simply worn out, so heavy has been the bombardment! However, the pacification of the Highland clans continues apace. My only worry is the large French fleet cruising off our East Coast, reportedly carrying some heavy ordnance…..

The treacherous Iroquois savages have suddenly attacked our colonists in New England. Some blather about sacred burial grounds, I gather. They will be taught a lesson.

Still no official word on the rumoured French settlement, although the diplomats are scurrying between Paris and London….

            • Chris you forgot to send me the save!

But I managed to play annyway since you posted it for us

              1680 a year of peace!

From now on there is peace between the English and French peoples!
The French fleet which was sent to assist his Scottish majesty was called home imidietly and given new, secret, orders.
The sealed orders where received by the second fleet, currently reciding in Brest.
Although nobody knows what is going to happen rumours state that the second and third fleet will carry out a coordinated action somewhere to the south.
Meanwhile the french army is being outfitted whit the new flintlock muskets and new regiments are constantly being recruited for the collonial expiditionairy forces.

Lord Charles Monk writes to his Admiralty employers…

                    The Admiralty, Whitehall 1680

My Lords, St James’ Palace has just made the following announcement:

"The French and English ambassadors concluded a peace treaty today that should lead to a new era of co-operation and understanding between our two great nations. Already great strides in technical and economic agreements have been made, along with a military convention that we hope will ensure
mutual security and good relations for a generation."

Well, if my dreams of glory against the French are to be dashed, at least I can report success from Scotland. After staunch resistance, Edinburgh has finally fallen, and my troops are now repairing the defences of the town. The castle held out to the bitter end, but many Scots nobles died or were captured in the final escalade, and I believe the backbone of Scottish resistance to us is broken. It may take a few years, but the two Kingdoms will soon be united – under English guidance, of course…

An expedition is being prepared against the Iroquois, but it will be a year or so before we can report concrete results. Aside from that, the recently depleted Exchequer will soom be replenished by the expansion in trade that is sure to follow the final peace agreement with the French. I am happy to announce that much plunder was taken in Edinburgh, and the Royal Coffers have benefited well.

Finally, all over English possessions, new settlements will soon be founded.

                    Chas.

History of the United Provinces, as recorded by Piter Devries, 1680.

Several matters in record, the most important being, that our fine scientists have discovered the secret of Steam Engine!

Also, Antwerp has built a fine new school, Den Haag has built a City Watch, and the overseas colony of Wilhelmstad has built a port, to increase trade and producition.

With these adavces and improvements, Holland increases it's stature in the world.

The Court of the United Provinces.

                        • El Awrence - I'm not sure, really. The problem is that, the more people you have playing, the slower everything happens. This game is going quite quickly now (apart from Henrik and I taking the odd week's holiday!) and I wouldn't want to change that.

Also, the available native Civs would not really suit human direction, the way the game is now balanced.

However, I have another suggestion. Why don't you and I form the hub of a fresh Colonies 3.12 game? There's no reason we can't play many of these simultaneously.

I think a total of four players should be about the maximum. I would prefer to be either the French or the English. We could also play another scenario, but I think if we played Seize the Crown, 100 Years War or Hellas, we should keep the number of players down to about 3.

Of course, those are just my scenarios. You may have other favourites....

The economic and technical cooperations priviously discussed whit the English has been realised now, and both nations are experiencing a great boost from the cooperative effort...

Our treaty obligations with French have been fulfilled. Our armies continue to modernise. The first of our punitive actions against the Iroquois have met with success.

Also, new colonies have been founded in Hispaniola and the Orkneys. Aside from that, little news.
