Phoenicia Province to Persia
What did you do? You have no right to interfere in mercenary activities! Our fleet is for rent since hundreds of years as long as our lord doesn´t need it, and you don´t.
What atrocities??? Keep to your business, and we will keep to ours!
(PS: GET ON YAHOO!)
It was a chilling March 4th morning. Laurentius was supervising the training of his Legion I Romana outside its fortifications. Today they were practising the tortoise-tecnique. Overall this maneuvre was quite well performed by the cohorts, particularly 5 and 17 were exellent at it so Laurentius decided to use them in front in the next siege they were to conduct.
A cloud of dust emerged in the southern horizon. Someone was coming in a hurry. One horseman, a messenger appeared at the valley before the roman encampment. He demanded to see Laurentius. He was escorted to the hill nearby where the commanders were on horse watching the maneuvers from distance. The messenger presented a sealed letter to Laurentius. "Its from Cornelius Nepos"- the messenger said.
"Dear Laurentius Aelius. There have been serious attacks against you in the senate while you have been away. Many young senators have been calling you traitor, who is trying to destroy the republic and declare yourself king. My sources hint that there may be somekind of conspiracy to assasinate you. Beware my friend. Cornelius Nepos. "
Showdown at the senate
For a brief period of time Laurentius thought his toga was falling as he stepped into the senate. It was a surprise visit and many senators seemed shocked. Dict. lauretius walked straight to the middle of the house and asked for the murmur to cease. He inquired what were all these news of him being accused of trying to overthrow the senate, and was it not the senate that had been giving him the authority of dictator. Senators looked at each other but kept quiet. Then one senator stood up and asked for permission to speak out, wich the speaker granted immediately. He was this young, ambitious kind of type. His name was Catilina. He began talking about the virtues of the first consuls, the heroic acts in times of war as in times of peace and then brought up the recent nightly incident by Laurentius' son Lucius. He had been arrested beating a young woman to death in after three night long orgy. The vigilum-police-were afraid to take him take him into custody after he had threatened to let his father have them all killed. He was left free but was reported later trying to extort money and sex from a brothel owner. "According to the law, the very same military law laurentius was part of imposing, the sentence for these actions is death." Catilina finished his speech.
Laurentius asked for the evidence and after hearing it he ordered the lictors to get Lucius to the senate immediately. It was already dark when Lucius arrived, he quickly understood what was it all about and pleded for help form his father. Laurentius did not hear any of that and beheaded his own son in front of the senate of Rome. "This is what happens to anyone who tries his luck in resisting of the laws of the republic and the justice of the people. Gods damn the one who seeks power to himself, makes laws to others but isnt willing to abide them himself. If anyone has something to say, now is the time to say it."- Laurentius said without raising his voice. The senate was shocked and not one dared to speak, they were gasping for air.
Laurentius excused and spent the next one night in Rome before leaving back to his camp. During the night he recieved a list of every senator part of the conspiracy. They were all arrested, hanged and their property handed to the people.
Change in the mood
The next day news spread about how the dictator honoured the laws. At the comitium enthusiastic speeches were made in favour of him and senators didnt want to appear working against such a popular character, so they granted Laurentius the title "Augustus", the honourable. Senate still wasnt ready to spend money on military but made preparations for something bigger to come...
Senates decicions
News about 30 triemes from Persia were taken with jubilance and the senate decided to extent the road to capua to Neapolis and expand the recently aquired port of Neapolis. This was to make it the home base of the Roman naval force as well as the leading port in the Republic. Three merchant fleets were sent, one to Carthage, one to Athens and one to Persia. Each carried highly valuable Italian goods and was escorted by extensive amount of triemes. The military operations were left to the Laurentius and his central command to decide, no money was granted to them this year.
Orders
- Spend 5 talents to expand the harbour of Neapolis and build the few extra miles to the Rome-Capua road in order to extend it to Neapolis.
- Spend 15 talents to the merchant ships to the three major cities abroad; Carthage, Athens and the Persian main port.
- 106 talents to treasury.
- Transport the swordsmen from Corsica and add them to Legion II Italica
- Destroy the Samnian army and finish conquering their land with the Legions II, III and IV.

Rome to Magna Graecia
Ave! Thank you for sending the garrison of Elea to help us fight with the Samnians, but your troops refuse to take orders from us. They say they are waiting to hear orders from Syracuse. Right now they are useless, please address this so they might be of use against the Samnians.

Rome to Macedonia-Athens
Ave! We are engaging in heavy trade with you. A new major harbour is being built in Neapolis and we wish to see many Athenian merchant ships there soon. We have large fleet full of Italian goods arriving to Athens in any week.
Laurentius did not hear any of that and beheaded his own son in front of the senate of Rome. "This is what happens to anyone who tries his luck in resisting of the laws of the republic and the justice of the people.
Laurentius is a badass dictator
Macedonia to Roma :
Greetings. Piraieus (in Athens) and Apollonia are both good ports and no doubt many goods will be shipped to and from there. Our merchants will be pleased to hear about your port improvements
Those walls are absent of glory as they always have been. The people of tents will inherit this land.

We are attempting to centralize and expand the Persian empire. Your mercenary activities are interfering with the greater interests of Persia and her other provinces. If your behavior is well, then we will compensate you by allowing the limited sovreignty of Persain province to be extended to the island in question.
Persia to Macedon
If the fleet follows your orders and leaves the Aegean, the land will be delivered to you as promised (next turn).
They have been taken care of, we will expect the islands next turn.
Lysistrata: It comes down to this: Only we women can save Greece.
Kalonike: Only we women? Poor Greece!
Ave! We are most pleased to report that the garrison is now cooperating and willing to follow our legions to battle. The Senate and the Roman people thank you.
Vale Bene!
- The Elean garrison will now join the Legions in pursuit of the Samnians
Well, it was a long post and I only completed it later, not change it completely. Also I needed to take a break so I sort of saved the post into here so in case my computer wouldh have crashed the post would survive. Maybe Tass shouldnt read incomplete posts that clearly state that they are going to be complated later. It doesnt matter if the whole post changes, its up to the author to decide what they are about to say. Also sometimes people slip things and edit them out later. Its perfectly normal.
Persia to Macedon
Why do you care? Our matters with other countries are our own business. The only Persian matters you should be concerned with, are those of the island that you have promised to us.
