Right- I now have 100 pages saved in IE format. I hope this is enough to bring it back on, but we need as much as we can get.

DO ALL BACKUPS OFFLINE, IOR THE HOLDING PAGE WILL PERMENANTLY OVERWRITE THE ORIGINAL

    ONCE AGAIN- HURRY

Very nice, EC. I fear I won't be able to contribute much, seeing as I have a sufficient broadband connection to purge my caches quite often and be unimpaired (in normal circumstances that is), but I do have all my news posts and a good idea of pretty much everything else I've done.

Thus, I cast my support behind the idea of picking up where we left off - I have Sweden pretty much railroaded now, and returning to 2008 would just lead to doing all the same stuff again, which would, to but it bluntly, be boring. Not that I would quit, and I might actually have some things to change (you know that Twilight Zone scenario of going back to change the wrong decisions of the past ), but if it comes down to a vote, I'd like us to continue from where we left off. Maybe a day or two of freezing to "catch up", repost old stuff and re-create those few threads that have not been saved, and then we would be back on. Mix in some goodwill and understanding in not requiring posted evidence of everything we claim to have done, and it can be very smooth indeed. IMHO a vastly better solution than one and a half months of instant replay.

            Howdy, everyone.

Things arn't looking too good, eh? I agree with most of the people here that I would not like to "repeat history" for a game year. While I have tried to back up my threads, the history lists them all as "Easyspace Placeholder"s and I have only a few posts saved.

I would have had some, but the last time I surfed the forums I went searching for porn right afterwards, and so that wiped out any traces of DotW in my cache .

OK- I've got most of the threads that were posted in in the last 2 days, with a few exceptions. Along with Nap I think we've got a lot of what we lost back, including the recent important events. Nations whose newsthreads I didn't get are: NPCs, USA*, CSA, Germany, China (PRC or CRC), Japan, Sweden, Netherlands, Norway, Israel, Eritrea, India, Pakistan, Philippines, Brazil, Russia, Kazakhstan. This is not a comprehensive list, so if in doubt, save it. Those marked with a * I know to be backed up with word documents.

I'd also like to say that I think that going back in time is a bad idea, and someting I don't want to do. I've also received word from Taz who says he probably wouldn't play on if we have to go back.

                    • Y'know, D3 was languishing in apathy when we did have the forums. It was a rotting pathetic hell and noone posted barely anything out of the some 46 players we had.

IMO, we should just scrap D3 and clean the slate by have a...yes, i'm gonna say it....RESTART!

It'd be for the best IMO.

The Frontier crashed not just Dotw

The other games may not have been running but there are still things that need backing up. I managed to get all my own posts from BNG as well as crucial economic threads, however I was unable to get page one of the thread entitled "economics" which contains all nations GDP's and most nations resources. Anyone who's likely to have that page in their history disconnect right now and go check because we realy need it!

                            No R******

It is natural in any forum for there to be cycles of inactivity- DotW3 already had one in 2004. I don't think that the 6 years of activity afterwards could be classified as death throws.

A lot of people have put a lot of effort into their nations, and the world is a very different place to how it started out. A lot of players have found their niche, and we should not destroy all of that.

At the very least such discussion should be postponed until the forum's back up and has had a chance to re-establish itself.

                            • Cake - The Distance

Reluctantly crouched at the starting line,
Engines pumping and thumping in time.
The green light flashes, the flags go up.
Churning and burning, they yearn for the cup.
They deftly maneuver and muscle for rank,
Fuel burning fast on an empty tank.
Reckless and wild, they pour through the turns.
Their prowess is potent and secretly stearn.
As they speed through the finish, the flags go down.
The fans get up and they get out of town.
The arena is empty except for one man,
Still driving and striving as fast as he can.
The sun has gone down and the moon has come up,
And long ago somebody left with the cup.
But he's driving and striving and hugging the turns.
And thinking of someone for whom he still burns.
                              He's going the distance.
                              He's going for speed.

                              He's going the distance.
No trophy, no flowers, no flashbulbs, no wine,
He's haunted by something he cannot define.
Bowel-shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse,
Assail him, impale him with monster-truck force.
In his mind, he's still driving, still making the grade.
She's hoping in time that her memories will fade.
Cause he's racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse.

Besides, I too have a couple of "big plans" that I don't want to go down the tubes.
