Well, all of DotW is backed up until the last purge. We should be able to recover.

They 'lost' the Frontier. OK- this is not pleasing in the least. We had thousands upon thousands of posts, many of them now lost. Not least among this was the recent rash of somewhat important events (plagues, tidal waves, Scott and DV agreeing on somthing) and what we were doing about them. I know that I have backups of everything from my various news threads, but I'm sure the same is far from true for everyone else. I hope that they can find the frontier again before they start 'losing' staff to 'accidents'.

Just how incomplete were the backups?

It's obvious by now that the forum has been down for some time over the last few days, for the reason I'll turn to Coug:

"They were transferring the site and it got deleted....They were gonna transfer the whole shabang to the new server with more space when the tragedy occured."

        A backup?

"the last one I took dates back a month, maybe more."

It turned out to be 7-18-01.

So as we stand we have a forum missing about a year. Rather than attempt to piece the last year together from memory and whatever we may have sitting on our hard drives, I feel it would be in the best interests of the forum to simply start back from where the backup stands.

Coug believes that the forum will be up within the next day or two. As soon as it is back up and running, feel free to begin to pick up the pieces and bring DotW3 back to 2010 as soon as possible.

        Cheers,
        Nick Steffel (WallytheWalrus)

        P.S: Coug adds:

You all have to register again. For that, I apologise, but there's nothing I can do. So once the site is up again, I'm gonna open a thread with post counts, and I'll add these to the post count. I'll need two people to verify the approximate count however... So, once again, I'm terribly sorry.

Over to some good news. I'll be installing UBB6 instead of UBB5 once we're up and running again.

They lost my post count? Damit I was within a day of overtaking Bolo, I was gonna do a whole big post about being the best in the RAF

hmmm oh well in every catastrophe there is an oppertunity

          *whispers to Erwin*

I'll veerify you had 10,000 if you'll verify I did

but serious I the numbers will end up being very vauge...

Master Coug, will we still have our avatars? And our medals? And our shiny bouncy balls? Especially our avatars. How else am I to show pride in the indominatable glory of New England?

And, I'm sorry to say guys, but this will probably do in my participation for DotW III for good. I barely have the time to keep up running the Philippines; I won't have near enough time to pick up the Philippines from more than a month ago.

Setting back forum time like this is stupid.

I must say that I don't care to set the forum back a year or more because of this. I have all of my news posts saved. Reposting them will not be a problem.

I have no interest in replaying things that have already happened (Chinese civil war, 2008 election, etc), and given practically everyone's waning interest with the forum in 2010, forcing it back to 2008 is disastrous and foolish.

Unfortunately, I am being lured by some old friends of mine from Everquest to return to our old guild. And they are getting the best of me. If the forums hadn't been down, it would have been easier to resist their arguments. I don't know if I will take Japan back or not. Ill probably hang around the Off-Topic and BNG if anything.

Rich, weren't you going to be away anyhow? How's your daughter?

And I find myself agreeing with Scott. We can pick up where we left off. DotW3 was condemned from the start, and half of us predicted that it wouldn't get past 2003. Could you believe that this much maligned child in the DotW family would be the most sucessful? We are within five months (realtime) of surpassing TW. We have had meaningful and for the most part highly realistic change in the near future. We have emerged from the present into an age where future and present blend. We are free to invent our own military projects and set forth our own goals, now that most of the old is already done away with. Where will our virtual future lead?

We should start again at july 15, 2010, the date we left off. We can try to repost what we had, remember what happened, and start playing from where we left off. I would not want to see this die once more (mainly because I had the good fortune to get a First World nation

To stop arguements about what actually happened and what didn't if we come to a dispute, we can all vote on it. Its probably the fairest way to go. In the meantime, we can write up OoBs, do stories, make new newsposts, remember the old ones and go forward.

Ironically, I had all my AoI and BNG stuff backed up, but not my DotW newsposts.

Great, just great. I personally don't wish to set the forum back 2 years.

Most successful!? Bah! I still say DotW II was...at least for me

No seriously, I still think DotW II was more interesting, with protectorates and all, etc. etc.

DotW III...bah....I REALLY don't wanna start two years back again...interest is waning enough...we don't need more...

I don't want to see it turned back either... I have a two of the four or five newsposts I made in the interim. As well as the opening post of the Invasion of Uruguay and it's deployments after that. I think I can replay the invasion of Uruguay, though I remember my casualty list...

I DON'T WANNA SET THE TIME BACK 2 YEARS! I ALREADY HAVE PREFABRICATED NEWSPOSTS FOR 2011 AND 2012!

                              NOTE TO SELF:
                              4 Merkava II
                              2 Panzjager II SPATGM Carrier
                              2 Type 42 Batch 3 slightly damaged
                              1 Slava badly damaged

                              Surplus sales
                              Pakistan bought a Type 42 Batch 3
                              Eritrea bought a patrol corvette
Lebanon bought the Type 21 Amazon

Not only we can get back what we lost- we shall.

I WANT EVERYONE, RIGHT NOW, TO LOOK IN THEIR HISTORIES TO SEE WHAT THEY HAVE LEFT OF THE FORUM AND SAVE IT. WE'VE STILL PROBABLY GOT A GOOD PART OF THE FORUM LEFT ON SOMEONE'S HD

AND WHEN I SAY NOW- I MEAN NOW. EVERY MINUTE YOU DELAY WE LOSE SOMETING.

DO THIS OFFLINE OR ELSE THE HISTORY WILL OVERWRITE THE ORIGINALS WITH THE HOLDING PAGE
