Urthalian ships are to continue colonizatin of Australia, we want to have some words with the neighbors to the north.... Kepp grabbing the Great Island too.
"Off our bow." the sailor pointed into the icy mist.
The captain nodded, "Ready the archers, prepare to fight."
The new island lay to their left, the barbaric ship closing from that side. It was closing fast.
Bows strung to full, the ship braced itself.
"Ramming speed." came the command.
The Britons were good sailors, the best in the area, this barbaric ship would cause them little trouble.
Arrows landed against the ship, peircing flesh with sick thwacks. The Ram was prepared in the bow, the ship was aimed, the oars pounded.
Speed rose, excitement braced the air.
Minutes later the British sailors celebrated as the Roman ship sank before them.

To Egypt: I'm sorry our alliance won't work, but I hope the two of us can still at least be friends, even though I'm friends with your semi-enemy Phoenicia.
The Republic seems to have finally brought lasting stability to Amelaria. The only political struggles are between the merchants, who control the Assembly and some of the Council, and the more militant and less libertarian people, who are strong in the COuncil. Each of these current factions currently controls one of the Kingships. THere is a sizeable group that controls part of the Council that is concerned with keeping the balance of power. This group has been ensuring that neither of the factions can get control of both Kinsgships.
Despite their differences, both Kings have announced their plan to unite India (Indus and surrounding area), Gangea (Ganges and surrounding area), and Dravidia (southern RL India) into the United Empire of Ingevidia. The Assembly and COuncil have yet to ratify any plan to change the name of Amelaria or embark on a huge campaign, but recently they have been more supportive of annexing neighbors.
In a compromise deal, the ASsembly has consented to a considerable raise of trading taxes (equivalent of modern sales taxes) which would hurt merchants in exchange for other concessions from the militarists. Also, customs taxes on any person not from a country on a special list (currently Amelaria, Phoenicia, and Egpt) have been created, as well as customs taxes on anyone if they are bringing a very large amount of goods into the country. (overall, economy is becoming a bit more controlled)
Orders: Invade all the remaining tribes in India (Indus are only, not RL India) and spread into Gangea. Build up the military to make up for any losses in battle. Continue construction of the Shrine to the Republic, which should be finished sometime within the next 40-60 years (some problems have made it take longer than originally expected). Implement new taxes. Begin an internal infrastructure project to connect civman2000 and Karachi by well-kept and supervised roads, currently the two largest cities in Amelaria.
Georgia is, in fact, the Russian one, you may notice that the ruler is 'King Stalin' a distant ancestor of the Stalin we all know and love, who was a Georgian.
The Cossacks originated in Georgia, which is why I added them, I will be adding UU's for these civs soon (tonight) when I update post 1.
The Georgians are not yet a pain, but if you look at their agression level you will see that to their neighbors (Phoenecia, Greece, Poland) they will soon become quite a bother.
I dislike that the update was buried under the new page, and advise all to see it. Next update could be as soon as tomorrow. So get orders in.

“Once again, Krey’s ideas prove to be no surprise. Always aggression over sense. Have you ever thought, Krey, that perhaps some of the ‘enemies’ you’re always rushing to fight might not have been enemies if you hasn’t provoked them?”
“No, for once, Krey is right, at least in that these people are bloodthirsty, and they are disturbingly close to our borders. Even though we shouldn’t necessarily attack them immediately, something certainly needs to be done.”
“Hmmm. But what about the--”
The Presider raised his hand and the discussion broke off into stray whispers and a few final urgent signals.
“Potinna and I have come up with an idea we will now present before the Council for voting. Observe.”
A crude map was brought out, roughly showing the eastern extents of Greek lands on the Black Sea and northern Turkey, and at the edge of the map, what little was known of the Georgian kingdom. Also on the map were symbols and marks denoting what the Presider was now explaining.
“The recent expansion of the size of our navy can be put to good use. We are reasonably certain that just our Black Sea Fleet is at least as large or larger than the Georgian fleet in that region. In case something unexpected should happen, we will have produced some more ships beforehand, and will equip all our ships with iron and other of the best materials and equipment available to us. This will ensure naval superiority.
“Then soldiers and workers and builders and other experts will land and begin constructing fortifications and defensive emplacements on the remaining segments of the Black Sea and Northern Turkey coasts between us and the Georgians. Included will be walled trading and domestic settlements whose purpose (other than being profitable towns, hopefully), I will explain in a moment. But with these defenses, not only will we be more secure in our presently existing territory, but should the Georgians attack, we will be able to hold on while we build up our forces and then mount attacks from land or sea, or both, whatever is most expedient.
“Coming back to the towns. If we can avoid war, all the better. We will try to make the settlements into trade forums with the Georgians. Have them as centers of items and services we can exchange with them. We don’t want to turn them into advertisements of how juicy we’d be to conquer, and hopefully when combined with the display the forts will make, they won’t make that assumption, but we do want to present how valuable it would be to trade. Once they see all the things that they can only get through trade with us, perhaps they’ll settle down for a while. Besides, we can make some money, too. So. What do you all say?”
The final vote was 19 in favor, 4 opposed.
Summary:

Those walls are absent of glory as they always have been. The people of tents will inherit this land.
