  • The World of Star Trek

    Game Status: In Progress
    Current Wars: None
Significant Events: Borg Invasion of Klingon Space, 1 Cube
    Current Date: January 15-29, 2370

This is my attempt to start a new story thread. I have been trying to start a Trek thread for some time now, but for some reason it has always stagnated, probably due to many other story threads. Fortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case right now, so maybe this'll do better.

Anyway, the time period is Deep Space 9 - or, for year purposes, about 2370-2375. The Wormhole has already been discovered, and there have been preliminary Fed-Dominion contacts, although no hostilities yet.

Basically, pick a race - any race in the Star Trek universe is open game - and have some fun. Note, though, that if you pick the Borg, you won't be invincible, and Species 8479 and the Q Continuum are not allowed.

There will be no official moderator, although if anyone gets out of line I'll handle the problem.

Everyone who wants to join claim your race, and we will start in a few days after everyone who wants to join has a race.

    LIST OF RACES
    *************
David Floyd - The United Federation of Planets
ScottF - The Romulan Star Empire
    PolarisGL - Cardassians
    Barbarossa - Dominion
    hacksaw - Klingons
    WarVoid - V'Ger type race
    Shadowstrike - The Maquis

That is basically a listing of all ships known in the Star Trek Universe for the major players. I am personally using that as a partial reference for my reconstruction of Starfleet, and browsing through the Klingon section, it looks like it has a lot to offer for the other races as well. Check it out.

      I'll take the Cardassians.

And how about we have the Borg come in through events and no one actually be them? Like we had for the Star Trek thing we made up before, David.

        Damn
        I wanted the Borg....

Are there any other cybernetic/cyborg/robot races in Star Trek I could take?

Polaris, I think you are right about the Borg, they really would be too powerful.

WarVoid, if you are into writing stories and things like that, you could be Lor (Data's brother) and stir up trouble. Or if you were really creative, I might allow you to develop your own cybernetic-type race, as long as it is in the Gamma Quadrant and thus explainable.

There are plenty of races left, for all you prospective story threaders.

You could be the Tholians, the Gorn, or the Bajorans (Starchild would do a good job with them, I think), or you could elect to be a shapeshifter, or you could command a small mercenary fleet. Of course the Maquis are open game, and you could always take charge of a single world within the Federation, such as Trill or Vulcan or something like that.
Oh, and of course the Breen, and if you like writing mainly stories, you could be the Bajoran Prophets.

I think that tomorrow we ought to start posting our preliminary stats, specifically and most importantly our military stats. I'm going to try to find exact Federation OrBats on the Internet, I'm sure some loser has compiled them

Dang, I just realized that we also need a cartographer. I'm no good at this, maybe someone else is?

I suggest not posting the pic on this thread, as it would slow down load time. Simply post a link, that's my suggestion.

I hope some one is the Gorn; weird looking but interesting. I like the Cardassians much better though.

David, you are talking to the king of astronomical cartography. Simply supply me with the map, and I'll go from there adding features from a ruler mark to placing where fleets are deployed.

BTW, David: Do you still have ICQ?

Polaris, I was thinking of finding just a simple 2D map of the Star Trek universe, and then getting someone (you?) to adapt it.

I do indeed still have ICQ, my number is still 11339290, and yes, I do need to start booting it up and checking it again.

I'd be more than willing to perform as the cartographer for this thread, David.

Brings me back to our old Star Trek forum that whistler never did set up. *Sigh* Those were days, DF.

Let's try to get all those people that claimed races to come back and claim some again. We had around 15 people, I believe.

Remember the first Star Trek movie?

The Voyager space probe turned merged with a human and the chick and turend into some super being....

                          I was wondering.

Could I like take charge of a civ called the "Voyagers"? Offspring of that first movie....

And yes ICQ is a must have.

                            A question. (again )

Do we have a basic set of guides to base our ships and armies on.

                            Like for ships;
                            Galaxy Class 30a/12d/12m
                            Universe Class 41a/20d/8m

                            or for troops
                            Ground Troops 10a/7d/1m
                            Sappers 20a/2d/3m

                            and so on.

A basic standard to base our demographics on.
We also need to set size limits. No massive armies at the start.

                              OK WarVoid that makes sense.

A general fleet movement rule - a fleet moves at the speed of its slowest ship. For speed, we will simply use standard Star Trek warp units, until someone develops something better.

Obviously no massive armies, although armies will probably not figure too prominently into this game.

Fleet realism will be most important, IMO, and I have already set up Starfleet. Basically, what I did was to get on the Internet and find a listing of every ship in Starfleet to ever appear or be mentioned in a TNG, DS9, or Voyager episode. I ended up with a good sized fleet, which I supplemented with a few extra Akira class ships (I only had 3, now I have 7 or 8), plus a few extra ships in other classes. I additionally set up a class of frigates known as the Loknar class, with about 30 or so starships, and a Georgetown class destroyer, with 5 ships, plus a Wasp class assault transport for my Marines, of which there are about 8.

My fleet marine force is 4 combat divisions, plus several regimental, battalion, and company sized teams, plus some expeditionary units.

The following is the exact number of ships in Starfleet, and I can email my Notepad file with their names and designations if desired.

                              Akira Class - 7
                              Ambassador Class - 11
                              Constellation Class - 6
                              Danube Class - 10
                              Defiant Class - 3
                              Excelsior Class - 21
                              Galaxy Class - 5
                              Georgetown Class - 5
                              Intrepid Class - 3
                              Loknar Class - 34
                              Miranda Class - 10
                              Nebula Class - 15
                              New Orleans Class - 5
                              Norway Class - 4
                              Oberth Class - 7
                              Sabre Class - 2
                              Sovereign Class - 2
                              Soyuz Class - 4
                              Steamrunner Class - 5
                              Wasp Class - 6

That's about all we need, I think, for giving our military stats (of course include ground forces). I have exact names and NCC designations for each ship, but that's unnecessary.
