Massive reinforcements from the de-militarization of the Iraniaqi interior and the Russian shipments of T-72s finally start to arrive on the eastern borders. Immediatley, the Afghan invasion speeds up; Herat is captured in the NW, and the blitz speeds towards Kabul from Rigestan. In the north, the forces from the Uzbek campaign advance further into the heart of Afghanistan, rolling over Baghalan and Khanabad. The oppositon grows stiffer as they near Kabul, however. Massive artillery fresh from the factories is brought in to subdue the solid defenses of the capital. But no matter how good of a fight the Talibans and other groups put up, Afghanistan seems destined to fall. It is simply a matter of time before another vast territory is added to the Iraniaqi Empire...

Greater Arabia has announced that it has sold 82 M-60A1 and 100 AMX-30 MBT's, as well as 25 F-5 aircraft, to Pakistan, in a deal that cost Pakistan a little over 1 billion dollars. This equipment was becoming obsolete in the Arabic Union because of the new equipment that has been bought recently, but it is still immensely useful for Pakistan.

Furthermore, Greater Arabia has acquired 50 medium-range bombers and production rights for the non-Chobham Leopard II MBT from Germany for an undisclosed amount of oil and natural gas. Factories are currently retooling for the Leopard II, and Greater Arabia plans to apply Chobham armour on the tanks that will be built in a little over 8 months.

The I and II Yemenite Corps and the I Somaliland Corps have entered the outskirts of Mogadishu, which is in complete chaos. Warlords have split up the city in sectors, and continuous battling occurs between them. Terror reigns where-ever these warlords rule, and Greater Arabia is determined to end this inhuman situation. The northern part of the city is being secured right now, but gangs are still terrorizing most of the city. People in the liberated cities speak of rape, torturing and murder being committed against them by the rivaling factions, and Greater Arabia has announced that once Somalia is pacified, a tribunal will be set up where these beasts will be tried for things like rape, torture, murder, crimes against humanity, genocide, and other crimes that have been committed during the civil war.

OOC: I have had enough of Jools' flaming in OOC. If stodlum did not kill the Poles (or the LMF or whatever the hell Jools calls them today) then I will. Certainly none of them have a chance of ever leaving Ireland alive. They are as good as dead anyway. If Jools really wanted a mercenary organization, he should have formed one in the beginning, and he could have.

BTW, surely, Jools, had the Germans been as great as you portray us, your pathetic rebellion would not even exist. I doubt that 25 ships could escape out of the Baltic past the Germans. I also doubt that 10,000 (then later you claim 30,000) Polish troops could slip past German lines, let alone be allowed into any of the Baltic states.

The one sided posts are nothing more than what I was going to have to face when Jools got around to launching the inevitable campaign to liberate Poland. He evidently does not like having done to him that which he threatens to do to others.

The Scandinavian government has not responded to the German diplomatic dispatch. They continue to harbor the Polish criminals, and have even gone to the extreme of granting them citizenship to mask their complicity in their crimes. Therefore, it is the decision of the German government, in accordance with the statement given to the Scandinavian government two weeks ago, that a state of war now exists between the German Empire and the Union of Scandinavian Socialist Republics. Hostilities will cease when all of the criminal Poles, whether possessing Scandinavian citizenship or not are delivered into the hands of the German Empire.

• Uprisings increase in Venezuela.
• Germany acquires islands in the Galapagos.
• Germany offers to pay Britain the funds for the freedom of Northern Ireland.

Stuff that would not appear in a newspaper (and that you do not know about):

Somewhere in Earth-orbit over Scandinavia:
The primary communications satellite for the Scandinavian military floated in geostationary orbit over Scandinavia. Another satellite approached, rising above the curve of the earth and moving on a dangerously close course to the Scandinavian satellite. The satellite continues to close on the Scandinavian communications satellite, passing within less than one hundred yards. As the two satellites pass each other, an soundless explosion rips the approaching satellite apart. The concussion of the explosion causes severe damage to the Scandinavian military communications satellite. Its main antenna systems were destroyed. The force of the explosion knocked the communications satellite out of its orbit and started its gradual descent into earth's atmosphere, where it would burn up. The Scandinavian military entered a communications blackout. For some reason, many of their radio transmission frequencies are being jammed. (OOC: Killer satellite stuff like this was planned by several nations. Something similar was involved in the US's vaunted SDI program in the 1980s. Keep in mind that Germany has launched a lot of mysterious rockets. Though not all of them are killer satellites like these.)

Ireland:
Germany has dispatched one special operations division, one squadron of Eurocopters, and three squadrons of fighter-bombers to Ireland to assist the Irish Army in dealing with the surviving Poles. Their resistance against this force will, no doubt, be valiant, but nonetheless futile. They will be inevitably crushed. To prevent the Poles from escaping Ireland, two warships have been dispatched. All outbound air traffic from Ireland has ceased. Any planes attempting to leave Ireland with the Poles on board will be shot down, either by the warships, or by fighters dispatched from Germany that can intercept their aircraft.

(OOC: Since the rise of socialism, Scandinavia has done little to improve its military. They are going to pay for their error.)

Iceland:
One of the German task forces dispatched from the Faeroes arrived near Iceland. The attack began with the launching of a barrage of cruise missiles, both from surface ships and an unknown number of submerged submarines. The missiles struck their targets. The radar and SAM systems protecting the island were then rendered useless. German medium bombers sortied from the Faeroes and Greenland, bombing the airbases on the island. Many Scandinavian planes were able to take to the skies to defend Iceland, and several of the bombers were shot down. Many of the warplanes that were launched do not live to see their victory, however. They are shot down by anti-air missiles launched from the German naval task force. One of the Scandinavian planes launched an anti-ship missile, which struck and damaged a German destroyer. The ship was hit above the waterline, and while the damage and fires were severe, the ship did not sink.

Once air superiority had been secured, calls were placed for the paratroops. One division of German paratroops and one division of Chinese paratroops descended to the ground from transports dispatched from the Faeroes. Resistance on the ground was light in all of the outlying towns, though fighting was intense in and around Reykjavik. The defenders were outnumbered, however, and those who survived fled towards to interior of the island, leaving their casualties and supplies behind. Once the cities and towns were secured, forces were dispatched to pursue them. The remaining Scandinavian forces have thus far eluded the German and Chinese forces.

Once Reykjavik was secured, further forces were dispatched from German transports to pursue the resistance. For all practical purposes, the island is under German control. (OOC: Iceland has a population in real life of less than 200,000. It would present no difficulty to secure it with two divisions of paratroops.)

Simultaneously, on the Scandinavian mainland:
German warships and submarines in the Baltic, North, and Norwegian Seas launched repeated cruise missile barrages at targets within Scandinavia. Several successful sorties were made by the new German B2 bomber clones. Many, though not all, of the priority targets were destroyed. Radar and SAM systems for the defense of the bulk of the Scandinavian peninsula have been destroyed. Many mobile SAM systems remain at large, however. The number of mobile SAM launchers should decrease as the Germans use satellite reconnaissance to call in precision air strikes against them. The second wave of German missiles, stealth bombers, and fighter-bombers, struck air fields across Scandinavia. The second wave of attacks also used precision bombs to strike many commercial structures, all of which were owned by the LMF, a well known front for the operation of Polish criminals. The third wave of bombings was directed at harassing army forces and sinking docked naval vessels. The fourth wave of bombings concentrated on destroying army forces and military facilities in extreme southern Sweden around Malmo. Even old and assumably abandoned military facilities and bunkers in the area were attacked. Much resistance has been put forth by the Scandinavians during the bombings. Many conventional aircraft (Tornados, Alpha Jets) were lost in the attacks, though no stealth bombers were shot down.

The Luftwaffe has begun repeated precision bombing runs on LMF front positions for Polish rebel operations in Loftofen, Kirkines, Bodo, Lulea, Bergen, Stockholm, Helsinki, Oslo, Trondheim, Uppsala, Goteborg, Oulu, and Vaasa.

With relatively little resistance, German and Chinese paratroops seized control of the islands of Gotland and Oland.

After the bombing had significantly weakened, if not destroyed, the enemy ground forces and totally destroyed the Scandinavian air forces in the region, German forces began landings between the cities of Malmo and Helsingborg. German and Chinese paratroops secured the main road and rail lines lead northward out of this area as the landings began. With resistance weakened or destroyed by bombings, the Germans were able to establish a beachhead, and begin to bring forces across from Denmark. Many in the local Swedish population welcomed the Germans, who promised to restore Sweden to independence and restore the pre-socialist government, including the monarchy. Some who favored socialism, however, are resisting, and have taken up arms and fled to the north to stop any German advance.

Resistance is expected to increase, as the Scandinavian forces are regrouping and preparing to give stiffer resistance and fight back against the Germans. The war is by no means over, though well over half of the Scandinavian air forces have been destroyed (most of the surviving planes are based in the northern areas, out of the range of the Germans unless they move southward). Two-thirds of the Scandinavian fleet has been sunk and a blockade has been initiated. Few ships, if any, are expected to be able to put to sea (again, most of the survivors are based up north.)

The first of class submarine, Tupi (S30), was designed and built in Kiel, Germany by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW) and commissioned into the Brazilian Navy in 1989. The Arsenal de Marinha naval shipyard in Rio de Janeiro constructed the Tamoio (S31), commissioned in 1994, Timbira (S32) commissioned in 1996, Tapajo (S33) launched in 1998 and scheduled to be commissioned during 1999, and also the Tikuna (S34), an Improved Tupi class submarine, which will be commissioned in 2001.
