  • scenario design ideas/feedback

Now that myrlyn was kind enough to debug a
dumb error in my RULES.TXT, I'm continuing
on my quest to design a 3-way battle (with
    a 4th trading-oriented civ thrown in for
    a diversion).

I really like the changes Allard HoÃŽfelt made to the Microprose Rome scenario (when you kill a Celtic city, they tell you where a gold mine is, which is a special unit, and
then an event is used to give $$ to the civ
    that destroys it, etc).

I'm also intrigued by Blackcloves multiple
    tech tree page.

I know everyone is different, but I'm curious
about people's feelings (interest, effect on balance) on several things:

fantasy vs historical -- I love history, but
it's easier to imagine separate techs for
goblins vs elves vs humans. I noticed on
a different forum some people indicate they
won't even try a sci-fi or fantasy scenario.

Along these same lines, you don't see many
    scenarios like Possidente's dinosaur one.
I think an insect scenario with advances allowing you to get bigger bugs would be fun -- killer bees, stag beetles, etc. -- but I'm not much of a unit artist, and there aren't many bugs to borrow and modify.

events to give techs -- in a fantasy scenario, what about a quest -- if you kill
the spider unit in the mountains (barbarian with high defense and move=0) you are given
poison, which allows you to make poison darts
that are missile-like. Would the ai even
bother -- is it too unfair?

Or -- don't allow tech from conquest, but
give a certain tech for capture certain key cities (perhaps only from a 'neutral' trading/perfectionist civ, which might have some advanced ship building)?
Again, I'm curious if exp. scenario builders have tried this and feel it's too unfair.

    I prefer fantasy/sci-fi and rude/funny scenarios.
There aren't enough funny/contraversial scenarios out there! Me and my friend Nero have had a few ideas, like Sex Civ And I'm working on a religious satire civ for ToT that's already pissed off Myrlyn

I'm in the middle of writing up the Events for my Desert Storm scenario. I'm trying to incorporate all kinds of effects you don't see much like the strategic destruction of industry and nuclear facilities and morale loss as a result of city loss and units lost and recieved technologies.

Also I was working on a space scenario- planning to make it a series of scenarios using the same units and stuff. I might get around to it yet.

        Dracon,
It didnt piss me off, I am used to that kind of stereotyping of my religious beliefs.
I guess I just was not ready to see it here.

Let's see you go apoplectic now Myrlyn

Here's an idea: The Sex Mod. The technologies will be all the major perversions. Stuff like Incest (allows Mutants), Bestiality (allows Centaurs and Minotaurs), Child Molesting (allows Cathedral), etc. Most of the improvements would be changed- Stuff like whorehouses, dungeons, gay bath-houses, etc. The wonders will be new too, like Covenant House (child molesting), Cure for AIDS, Women's Liberation, the Internet (increases research, just like SETI), etc. Spies would be voyerus. We replace the filling beaker with a dick which becomes more erect and shoots *** when research is almost complete. Corruption would be "prudery", which starts out high at first until you research better govenments. Not sure what they would be, probably stuff like Patriarchy, Victorianism, Love Commune, etc. These are just some of the ideas. And the text files, oh, those text files... over 100 kilobyes of sick and twisted humor...

Or maybe Jihad Civ. You choose your religion and play as it's Deity. Your goal is to convert the Heathen into worshipping you, or experminate them completely. The different civs are the different religions, like Catholicism, Islam, Satanism, Mormonism, Jehovah's Witness, etc. each with unique technologies such as Torture (allows Inquizition WoW), Brainwashing (allows Suicide Bombers), Hypocricy, Pig ****ing (for the Muslims), you get the idea. Just hope I don't end up as the next Salman Rushdie.

This fish is avoiding the hook.

How about this for a scenario. Rename all all the civs and give them characteristics of apolytoneers, Let them battle it out.

I think Dracon would make a very good Barbarian.

We already have a scenario like that.

My very own TAS (The Apolyton Scenario).

You can get it off of Bill3000's web page.

Sex Civ may soon be reality. It was originally the idea of Nero, the guy who brought us the Original Mod Asylum and the guy who made the cult classic scenario US Civil War 2001 (which inspired my Aussie Civil War scenario, BTW).
Well, Nero said that he'd work with me to make Sex Civ a reality. We hope to make it the most contraversial, insulting piece of Civilization Modification that ever graced the internet community.

I used to be into historical scenarios but it got boring. Now I mainly do sci-fi, fantasy and fictional works. Most of my recent stuff is based on cult classics like Godzilla and War of the Worlds.

I'm interested in this new scenario so please keep us updated.

Well, I'm working on the first of the 2 scenarios (3 way battle: Goblins, Elves,
Humans with some shared tech tree plus
separate tech trees). Right now I'm getting
                      the setup right and events.

The annoying thing is that I made it so that
the Goblins could "see" a human and elven
city, but rather than attack with fast
moving wolves (which have attack role in
the @UNITS section) they sent the wolves
to wander around unexplored areas -- even
though I set the attitude to Vendetta!

Do I have to do a MAKEAGGRESSION or does
the computer civ like to explore first?

Also, does having cities set as objectives
have a big impact on the AI?

I was surprised at the wandering around,
since I assumed the AI cheated and didn't
                      need to explore too much.

You know what, Dracon? This time you are funny! A pure evil bastard--but funny all the same! Listen--any of you fine folks (yea, you too, Dracon) need flags made for these scenarios? I have already done flags for several scenarios in my own Gregorian style. If you want to see some of my work, visit my flags page at:

Thanks again guys! Good look with everything, and I call first-next-to-creator dibbs on scenario testing for SexCiv! Muahahaha!

I'd need someone to work on Graphics for Sex Civ. Note: this job would not be for the faint hearted

You do nice work, Tsar Grigori.

I need a fictional flag of a bear claw on a white flag. Do you think you could do that?
