  • Tot Scenario Conversion help using Civconverter

Don't have Civ 3 yet so I'm limited to ToT and MGE untill my birthday :P
I just downloaded Civconverter, because I made what I consider my best
scenario so far for Civ 2: MGE. The problem is, I went into DOS, and I
entered "cd C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\CIVCONVERTER\" and it said "invalid
directory." It finally dawned on me to look up the MS-DOS name of the
folder, and it was "CIVCONVER~1". So I proceeded to open the restart the pc in
DOS yet again, and entered cd C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\CONVER~1" and it
    worked...however, I then entered "CivConverter
    C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\BENWORK\STARWARS\STARWARS.SCN"
and it said "this program cannot ben run in DOS". I was thinking, if it
can't be done in DOS, why does the readme file say to go into DOS? So, I
returned to standard Windows use, and decided as a last ditch effort, I
would simply drag the Starwars.scn file onto the CivConverter.exe file. It
worked! It created a new folder called "converted" in my scenario's folder,
and inside was a new "Starwars.scn". I was very excited, and immediately
tried to open the converted scenario in Test of Time...but to my dismay, it
said "Failed to load game: file is in an obsolete format". So, my question
to you is, how on Earth do I do this???
Thanks very much to anyone who can help me out!

Is your version of ToT version 1.1, the patched version? If you did not update ToT from version 1, that might explain the error message.

if it said file in obsolete format, than it never converted, despite appearing to - your windows trick, which had me excited for a moment, doesnt seem to work.

Which means your stuck in DOS. I dont know why your getting the doesnt work in DOS message, but i suspect you're not getting the right program because of the DOS shortening of the windows name. What I do is change the name to an eight character or less one that DOS likes (civcon) I also put it into a simple directory path (C:\civcon\civcon.exe) This works, and makes things much easier ( i do similar things with the files to be converted)

You shouldn´t restart your computer in DOS mode! Just open up an MS-DOS-prompt (should be somewhere between the programs in the start menu, otherwise enter "command" in the Run thing in the start menu), or you could even choose Run straight away and type the civconverter line in there (you´d have to use the full path name of the executable).

        That´s what´s causing the trouble.
