              Chaucer, rather than Shakespeare, perhaps?

From the writings of Jon of Sussex:

"Last day of Maye, this year of grayce 1142”

King Stephen hath retaken Saint Alban’s Towne, and there ys loude rejoycing throughout the land!

Agayne vile rebelles aproach Monmouthe with grayte clamoure and my lord hath rydden agayne to their succour. We hear of no other disturbances from his other demesnes and so I hope the Sprynge plantings passeth off without like evile doings…”

                The Scribe Ioanes does continue:

'The Lord of Bury Saint Edmunds , Murther Most Foul, is like unto snake in the grass, anoying yet very dangerous. His cohorts shall soon be crushed under heal of milord Bigod, Lord of Castle-Rising, and Protector of Norwich.

'Little else in other news, my estates in Yarmouth do seem to be prospering most well.

'This is my record as of May in the year of our Lord 1142.'
