  • TA-DAH!

It works! Rune Berg's Dll. thingmajiggy for changing the leader portraits works! It's pretty easy too. I've changed all the leader portraits on my Earth 3000 scenario to sci-fi images.

It's a little crude at the moment because of a couple of problems. The first is the palette is limited by the colors in the image you are inserting it into. Does anyone know if there is a way around this?

The second is the need to sometimes reduce the quality of the image to make sure that its file size is less than that of the image its replacing. I think these problems are managable and we sould be able to find ways around them.

    techumseh,

    Delighted that you've found success!

Perhaps you could share your experience with the community by preparing a Design Tip for the League (nag nag)?

Also, do you have a link to the program? It's not the same as on civ2.sidgames.com/hosted/civ2/civhack.htm is it?

oh yeah it works alright. the main problem is that the files they edit are HUGE and to use them you have to replace them in the civ2 directory. Thats why i never used them in my scenarios.

tecumseh: There is no way around the palette and file-size problems.

Cam: The GifX on my site is the beta1 version. Rune's latest version is beta3. I might I that, but maybe I wait until version 1 comes out.

mrtemba: You could include the graphics files only and add a small readme about where to get GifX and which image(s) should be replaced.
People should have/download GifX then, and be able to add the images themselves. Some of the players probably won't bother or don't dare changing it, but others will use it.
In such a way it simply becomes an extra option, but an option at least.
