Does anyone know were I can get this utility? The link at CivFan is dead.

(Didn't know were else to post this. Does poly have a thread for fast, simple questions like this? )

or http://www.ifi.ntnu.no/~runeberg/gifx/ (seems to be dead atm)
      or http://www.civgaming.net/mercator/mapedit/
      or http://cullivan.com/civ/tools.html

The CFC link worked for me though.

Yes it's dead, and will probably stay that way for ever... I don't keep a website for GifX anymore. Haven't touched it for years. However, it can be found in the civ2 files database here at Apolyton, in the "special" category (and on a number of other civ2 sites).

Good to see you again (here to stay, or just passing through?)... And no sweat, it's also on my website.

Just passing through I'm afraid... I'm not into civ2 anymore.

Nice to see that someone still uses the program, though

I know the problem. (haven't actually played civ in ages myself, to be honest)

Yep (sort of)... So, if we never see you again, thanks!

I'll probably drop by from time to time...

Who knows, maybe I'll even release the beta 4 version I have lying around somewhere one day

With programs like yours, designers can really tailor Civ2 to individual scenarios. Really sets the ambience. Many thanks for the effort.

But this is a dangerous forum for programmers with a proven track record. Merc's 'todo' list is lengthy. But we're very patient, undemanding, appreciative users who always read the documentation and provide clearly described feedback.

So, now that you're dangling bait, what's in the 'new' beta.

@Merc, are you ever going to reply to the PM I sent twenty minutes ago.

I was sleeping. I'm onto it now.

MUAHAHAHA!! Wouldn't you like to know?

Actually, I was curious myself, so I went and looked. The last build date on the exe file is 22. feb. 2000, so it's no wonder I can't remember

Anyway, from a brief look I found two changes (more might exist):

                      - The images are now listed with meaningful names instead of "Image #123" and so on.

                      - You can now save the images you've changed in a dll in a separate file so that you can include them with your scenario/mod without including the entire dll (which is probably technically illegal anyway). The files can then be imported into the users dll files via a batch script or something (this feature is not finished, I believe)
