Thanks for the comments so far

There are minor things that need to be changed, nothing serious, mainly spelling errors and German "leftovers". I´ll post some modified rules, labels, etc in the next days. The game itself seems to run fine.

If anybody has more feedback, esp. to the gameplay and game balance, let me know...

Are the European powers supposed to be at war with each other from the beginning? I played as the germans, and got invaded by the Franks the first few turns...

Yep, that is intendet. I tested it in other versions, with a cease fire between Europeans, but then I had enourmous trouble to get the AI to attack later - the MakeAggression triggers did work sometimes, but sometimes not

In the end I took the version with constant wars everywhere, because I think it is also more challenging. It is not very historically accurate I know, but the scn is more a "what-if" scn from an accurate starting point on...

I played this more than I would care to admit over the weekend.
My biggest (and totally unconstructive ) criticism is that the Spanish city graphic looks so good onscreen that I don't want to capture any Spanish cities for fear of changing them.

I've tried both the Brits and the Germans so far and they both seem to play pretty well too.
                Very nice job.

well, trading is almost impossible because you are at war with the europeans powers and the muslims, but i´m discovering techs every five turns and earning money so is not a probem, i´ve changed to the second part I´m two turns aways from mobile war engine,

                      i will unles war

i like that you change the victory conditions to objective cities,
in the 1.0 i didn´t go to midle east becuase i started war with the germans and the english

Try the English if you want to play a trading strategy. You get the two continent bonus, but, yes, the constant state of war makes it somewhat difficult to keep a ship chain alive. That challenge, though, makes this strategy fun; many scenarios become too easy if you succeed in exploiting a trading strategy. The Spanish/African muslims seem the best trade partners (reasonably close, reasonably lucrative, not too many enemies between you).

You can just ignore the French and Germans...maybe put an outpost in Bretagne or try to seize the Viking town that gives access to the Baltic (Hedeby, IIRC), but those aren't critical. Since you'll be having ships in the vicinity, you're well positioned to start taking over some of the Portuguese and other coastal areas once you get some decent techs (Empire = galley!). Then onward to selected cities on the N.African coast, Sicily and selected Med islands, and finally...the holy land! I suspect I'm a bit ahead of schedule, in my second game, having Crete and an eye on Cyprus, just as the first Crusade events occur. First attempt as France was a bit of a flop.

I still like the option to negotiate, but since the permanent wars transform an overly easy exploit into a fun alternative strategy, it's definately a good call in this scenario.

Why? Do you think it was too easy? I always want to find out where improvements are needed.

Shaka Naldur, if you have ships, you can trade (as Franks) with North Africa. As Germans, it is even easier if you conquer Southern Italy ASAP, then you can also trade effectively with Byzantium.

No, no, no, no, no. It's too early to make any statement about too hard or too easy, at least from my perspective.

When I play for fun (unlike when I test), I avoid looking at the event files. So, playing as the Franks, I got bushwacked a few times, rather painfully. It was particularly painful, since I was trying the trading strategy with the Franks, meaning I was sinking resources into units that weren't helpful for recovering, so I had to switch gears, so ended up behind the curve tech-wise (in my hubris, I insisted on playing at deity despite your recommendation). So basically, I lost! I'm sure the next Frankish attempt will be more satisfactory; when playing as the English, I still didn't know the event specifics, but could guess the approximate frequency and severity of your raids and rebellions, which partially explains the English' relative success.

I'll try to e:mail you if I have any significant comments. Are you anticipating a 2.1 version?

That would be great. Currently I plan only to correct some minor errors, but if you have ideas for significant improvements - I´m open for every suggestion.
