  • Who has a long memory?

Does anyone remember a thread a couple of years ago in which it was described how extra text or picture files could be attached to pop-up boxes or events text boxes in Civ2? I think it was Allard Hoefelt who provided the tip, though I'm not sure. I'd really like to find it. Can anyone help?

I think there is a hint in the scenario league design tips collection.

But it was only possible to attach pictures to the scenarioname.txt.

I do remember that. He had some sort of scroll box in the introductory text box. I remember that he posted it in one of the forums. I searched all his posts but could not find it. It must have been posted so long ago that it has been deleted. I was going to search the archives as well, but there don't seem to be any archives anymore.

Maybe you could look at one of his scenarios and figure out how he did it. He used it in River War.

No, I don't . And yes, it was Allard's research. I also seem to recall having read some of this stuff in the SLeague website. As to the rest... have you tried the forum search tool? Maybe it works, I dunno. Didn't Allard use some of these tricks in his latest River War scenario?

EDIT - crossposted with Gothmog - he answered some of the above.

Mercator, yo da man! I searched for this thread, but it didn't come up. This is it, I think, though somehow, in my memory, I recall a tip about being able to add pictures to events text. Maybe it was just another of those troublesome flashbacks.

I think it was also Allard who came up with the bat. files for switching terrain, units, etc. I did find one he did about changing the colour of the text. While searching the old posts last night, I was thinking what good work people have done, far beyond anything intended by the game designers. And what a good time we've had doing it, too.

You can use Necrociv as an example of Text Commands in action.

                    Aha! Magic!
Well, actually I just did a search of all posts by a certain user called "Allard HS" on the Scenarios League forum, and this was one thread. And I missed it at first too...

Thanks, William. I'd forgotten that you'd used it for your SDC#3 scenario. I was having trouble adapting River Wars' FW intro into my ToT scenario, but yours works like a charm.

Has anyone ever been able to add anything to events text boxes?

Ahhh, this may not work on all platforms. I thought I recollected something like that.
