  • Too many cities

I've just received an e-mail from Zenehegí, one of our spanish Civ2 scenario creators. He's trying to create a world-scale scenario and he's found that 'too many cities' error message. He asked me if there's a way to allow more cities.

I don't think it's possible, but if somebody know how to hex-hedit the file to allow it...

    Thanks in advance.

The CIV II software uses 1 byte to count cities. This means that the first city is number 0 and the largest number possible is 255 (ff in hexadecimal). Consequently, the maximum number of cities cannot exceed 256.
Excerpts from the Manual of the Civilization Fanatic :

Money can buy happiness, just raise the luxury rate to 50%.
Money is not the root of all evil, it is the root of great empires.

255 cities... 255/FF is used for the NONE indicator.

I wish the creators would release the source code...

Not likely. If they released the source code we might ignore CivIII entirely.
