  • Gigamap map eiditor for MGE

i wanted to 'update' my south america map to a gigamap version, but my MGE map editor doesn't work (i have the standard civ2's editor on a separate folder, which is what i use, but i can't open gigamaps with it)

any ideas on what should i try?

    MapEdit

You will still need the MGE map editor to do the actual creating though, unless you want to do it all in a paint program.

i already have map edit, but i want the map editor....

working with the bmp's is too tedious, as the civ2 grid id tilted 45º with respect to a bmp grid....

Dont you need the 'no limits' patch to be able to work with gigas? Probably a civfanatics downloadable item.

but they work with my civ... i can open gigamaps, the only thing that won't work is the map editor.... (the MGE one returns an error, and the basic civ2 one opens them up screwed up)

            I agree completely.

            What error do you get?

Maybe you can try my "Test of Time map editor", downloadable from the MapEdit websites as well. It's just a copy of the MGE one really (although you can also create gigamaps with it), I think it should work with MGE too.
... I don't think that works on WindowsXP though, which is probably a mistake on my part, but I can't fix it because I don't have XP.

No you don't. The only thing that does for maps is allow you to generate random gigamaps. And it doesn't affect the map editor either.

i'll need to check the error at home (it just doesn't open....)... it's a civ2map.exe with around 2 KB, whereas the standard civ one (which i have in a separate folder weights around 1.5 kb)

btw, i'll give your ToT editor a try as soon as i get home... but i use XP :-/

                  Yep, that sounds about right.

Could you perhaps try it again, but use this one instead (it still works the same):

Edit: My utility website has been updated. So the updated (XP-compatible) map editor is now available from there:

Could someone with Windows XP and ToT (or MGE) please test this?

Works for me. I guess now I won't have to switch to my Win 98SE partition. Excellent stuff, Mercator.

All I need now, is something that can add rivers in the saved game, without hex editing .

Confirming it works with MGE and XP... and confirming that the instructions to make it work on a separate directory are correct... thank you mercator!
