Solarquest! It's basically Monopoly in the solar system. OK, OK, I know it's not exactly deep or challenging, but me and a buddy spent a good 2 years playing this board game after school. We even made up tunes and humerous quips for different moons you would land on (hey, we were like 12 years old). Come to think of it, I don't even know if this is around any more. It was probably 10-12 years ago this game was around. Great, addictive fun if you're looking for an alternative to Monopoly.

Wadsworth: Professor Plum, you were once a professor of psychiatry specializing in helping paranoid and homicidal lunatics suffering from delusions of grandeur.
Professor Plum: Yes, but now I work for the United Nations.
Wadsworth: Well your work has not changed.

Settlers of Catan is another excellent game, of course. I've currently got the original, the 5-6 player XP set, the seafarers XP, the 5-6 player seafarers XP, the Knights and Cities XP and a friend has the "historical" scenarios. Don't let this daunt you, the original 2-4 player game is very good in its own right. Its a trade and build game.
I can also concur with the recommendations of Tikal, El Grande and Ra. All good games. Big City is another slightly more lighthearted game that I enjoy a lot.To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.
