  • Working on a map for WarCraft III

Needless to say I haven't left my house in about four days now as I relentlessly work on a multiplayer cooperative quest map. Once I finish it (in about 2-3 days, maybe more if playtesting requires), I'll post a playable version of it here for some feedback.

There are a number of quests, new characters, and a storyline to boot.

Just so you know, the map has gone through 215 versions, and it's only about 60% done.

Here's a clue on the storyline: It's got more to do with WarCraft II than WarCraft III, but takes place after WarCraft III's events.

I'd love to tell you all more, but I can't give it away (even telling you the map name would be a giveaway). I hope it will be played by more than myself for the amount of work I'm putting into it... I'm pretty excited about it.

I'm impressed with Blizzard's compression code... as the map is only 164k in size but is huge and has an extremely large number of regions, triggers, units, and doodads.

    Sounds interesting.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

      I'll download it!

I'll need someone to try it out with though.

Yeah, the editor for WC3 is great, though it takes a step back in one area. That being allowing editing of abilitys/spells/etc... But, hopefully this will be in a hacked version of the editor, like the things that were eventually able to be done with the hacked SC editor.

It's getting real close to being done folks. I'm going to finish the rest of the cinematics tomorrow and hopefully take it for a final test drive with a friend and then post it here.

Alright here it is, the result of two full house playtests on B.net with myself and five others. It's been tweaked and should be ready for consumption.

As far as I know, there's nothing I can do about the choppy cinematics at the start, it's a victim of latency and works fine in singleplayer if you really want to watch them.

Damn. After you posted this I would have wagered it was going to be called Kyokujitsu.

Is it that much better than Starcraft? I'm still going through Morrowind so I haven't picked up a copy of WC3 as yet.

I made a few updates including victory for all the players instead of just the first player, and I widened a couple of paths because they were too narrow.

I'll post the newest version of Tomb of Sargeras later tonight, but right now I'm dropping in to say I've begun work on a new RPG that will probably be done in the next three weeks.

Anyone play on Northrend? My nick is Dr5pike if you do, and I'm usually in GBR-1.

I have played your map several times now, and I must admit:

Damn it's diffecult (I'm only playing SP, so you have to do everything yourself)...

The farthest I've got, is to the place where you have to have two things to open a port...Well, it's a little after that, but not far. I've got to the place where you just after you get out of a waygate, you meet some VERY big guy (Was that the guy who was level 12, or was that just before...don't remember)

But your map is fun, very nicely done

This is a good map, to get to know the different spells...
This space is empty... or is it?

Yeah...it's pretty impressing. I've heard it from someone that the file sizes should be pretty low, about the 100 kb, but I just thought he was kidding, or that was just a very small map...but as I tried it myself (By saving a replay), I saw that he ment it. And what you see in the replay is also impressive
