  • Looks like I have unleashed a hotbed of SimCity people with this thread

    • Since its one of the most popular games of all time, are you surprised?

I think one of the reasons that these games do so well is that it is essentially positive in nature, and there are so few quality positive games that emphasise growth rather than destruction. Lately the Tycoon! series has tried to broaden the market but with rare exceptions the games are usually just cynical attempts to milk cash. The only really new success has been the Sims. If only they'd make a truly worthy successor to Transport Tycoon....

      • They have posted a recent chat-script of SC4 on the official site, but they don't tell much news...If you're interested, you might want to read it, but you don't miss any valuable info if you don't...

You're right. It is not at all surprising. Actually, I was surprised how little I had seen it mentioned and that was why I finally started the thread.

          • We have had 2-3 (maybe more, I haven't seen) other threads about SimCity 4...

            • Yes its been talked about from time to time. At last we got some awesome screenshots to back up the speculation so this thread is going to run and run ..... particularly now they intend to keep tuning the game into 2003 rather than releasing what they have for the Christmas market.

                  Yes, that is quite suprising.

I played SimCity just to unleash Godzilla, initiate nuclear meltdowns, trigger earthquakes, or incite fires. Much more fun than the zoning up of regions and building infrastructures.

In that case, you should go read the new article on the official site, they mention something about the new destruction tools (Yes, they call them 'tools' )

                        • The suburbia and farm screenshots are looking good. It really is starting to look as if you can design some truly different places to live in SC4, not just variations on skyscraper city. The only thing I haven't noticed yet is any truly futuristic dwellings.

                              • There's even more screenshots on the official site, though not in the screenshot part, you need to "read" the article "is SimCity 4 in 3d?", they have 8-9 new screenshots
