desert walking? I do it all the time. there is nothing to see
Of course there is! There's desert! And if you're in the right kind of desert, there's even big hunks of rock just lying around or sticking out of the ground! Wutang!

I'll report to the folks in holding pattern once I get the thing installed and find time to play it, but as it turns out that might not be until July or even August--I'm planning on doing some desert walking this summer, and if it turns out that May and June are the best times to wander aimlessly through a desert then I'll do my desert walking in May and June, Morrowind be damned.
In hindsight, maybe I shouldn't have bought the game until I had time to play it, but hey, you live a little you learn a little. If anybody plays it in the meantime, please report back, if it's a dog then maybe I can get my money back if I haven't opened the box yet.
Just shove it in a jiffy bag and post it to MEEE - I'll play test it for you all and let you have my valuable opinion - and loin can have it back after he has done whatever unlikely things one does in a desert - I thought you dried up and died - but then I'm an ignorant euro ...
I've been playing somehwat religiously the last two days. And wow, this game is great.
Nice huge world
There must be 300 dungeons
It's is beautiful world
However the game is going to run slowly, slow yet beautiful
Lots of interesting character development.
The combat engine sort of stinks
Anyway, if you like PC RPGs, this is the one to pick up. I don't want to spoil _anything_ for all of you. If you have questions though just ask.

what's wrong with the combat engine?
If it's the same as the engine in Arena and Daggerfall, then fighting requires you to putter around with your mouse a lot (down-slashes are performed by dragging your mouse down, cross-slashes are performed by sliding your mouse from side to side, etc.). It takes some getting used to, and an optical mouse would probably be a blessing. (My mouse would get quickly gummed up from use.)

Its an evolution of the old system but you can as before fight okay just by moving your mouse left-right a bit to swing your weapon. If you want to get fancy you can go for jabbing motions, diagonal swings and even use slower but more powerful blows. I understand its doing its best to appeal to those who want to do little more than click 'fight' and sit back and those who want special moves etc to make a difference. I've got the game on order from my UK supplier so hopefully it won't be many more days before I can discover just how well they have succeeded. Like many here I'm going to need to upgrade my PC to be able to step up from the minimum resolution and low feature settings. The P3 700 w Voodoo 3 card should be okay but only the most recent cards on the faster machines will be able to portray the full graphical beauty of the game and in the highest resolution.
Yahoo! My import copy just arrived. Now all I have to do is work 9 hours before I can get to see if it will run at all on my P450. Then start planning where to get the most cost effective new PC this weekend
