I tried ADOM for a while and went back to nethack.
Maybe they're both good games, but take a bit of getting into.

The best rogue-like game I have played is Omega. Unfortunately there isn't much done for the game recently. It has a large map with multiple dungeons, there are all sorts of weird ways to do things, the commands are well thought out, and it is class-less. Yes you can "walk" in a direction in Omega.

Adom has some interesting ideas but the command list needs some major overhauling. What I mean is the list should have stayed as close to rogue as possible. Ah well.

Questions for experts

1. How do you sacrifice at an altar? Do you just drop something on it?

2. How do you disarm a trap on the map? In Omega there is a "disarm trap" command. Can you try it if you don't have the skill? What the heck can I do if there's a pit in a corridor leading from the room I just came down from another floor?

3. What affects swimming? Why would some of my items rust? Will taking off armour help?

dropping doesn't help. press shift and o (O) and then select item you want to sacrifice from the list.

you need the skill. there's no way if you don't have the skill.
one fall to the pit doesn't kill you, so just walk thru/by.

swimming skill, water breathing ability(gained thru item) and water proof blanket to protect your stuff(in your backpack). use eternium or artifact weapons armor, they don't rust.

All sorts, including elves, dwarves, and trolls.

There's this one gray elf wizard found a bloody two-handed sword of thunder (+12, 3D12+12) and he didn't knew about it! Curses! Great demons of Hell! Fire and brimstone! Mayhem death and destruction!
