Well, you make me look like Steinitz defending against one of those “romantic” players of the 19th century who did sacrifice material for developement and attack ...

Good question Smash
Looks like I can take the knight, but I must calculate very carefully. I've never known something more terrible than to accept a sacrifice and then be beaten.
You have to imagine that your opponent is going to show the game of his life to everybody.
Happened to me once against a quite old man of attacking style. I did not see what he was up for, I could refuse with a solid move, but I took the piece. He then sacrificed a second one (Nxg7, then Bxh7) and I was soon mated. It was 6 years ago and I still remember his broad smile as he was showing all the guys of his club his combination. He probably still does today !
What's more I spent almost all my remaining time to be sure I'd been fooled around by a nice but quite simple combination. So I looked ridiculous much longer. It was a team competition, far away from home, and a long way back. All my teamates were asking me why I did not play Ng6 instead ? All I could say is that I thought the old man had had a brain disruption. No convincing calculation indeed !
Anyway, I now always think of the old man; and always a resourceful defender, I am much better at it thanks to this "humilation".
And I am going to calculate everything !
