  • UCC and MGE. What's the difference?

    Is there any difference between MGE and UCC, other than one is a "UK" version and the other a "US" version? Canadians, Europeans, Aussies etc... What version do you get to buy?
    I'd assume they're compatible games, right? Internet games are possible with the different versions, yes or no?
    So what's the difference?

    As far as I heard, they were exactly the same game, but with different names, for some stupid reason. They should be compatible, but I haven't heard evidence either way yet. Try CivLeague, they should be able to help, or the Civ2 forums

              Yes, they're compatible. The UCC has been sold in Spain the last week, with a newspaper, for only 4€ (4$).

              The only difference, I believe, is that UCC doesn't include the CiC and FW scenarios that MGE includes

              [CiC = Conflicts in Civilization
              FW = Fantastics World,
              they are both previous versions of Civ2]

              BTW, this thread should be in Civ2/General, in my humble opinion
              Trying to rehabilitateh and contribuing again to the civ-community

                  UCC stands for Civilization II Ultimate Classic Collection.
                  It's a European version of MGE, with the box cover being a greenish Maya calendar or something. It did include the CiC and FW scenarios, that's why it's called a "collection", after all.

                  AFAIK, aside from MGE and UCC, there was only one other multiplayer release, namely an add-on called Civlization II Multiplayer. That one obviously didn't include anything CiC or FW.

                  Those are the only releases I know of anyway, there might be some more, e.g. a stand-alone multiplayer release without the extra scenarios, and undoubtedly a whole bunch of different versions varying per region of the world.
                  I don't think there are other versions, though, considering there are only two patches. One for MGE/UCC, one for the add-on, so in any case, all different "versions" will boil down to one of these two.
