I went ahead and got the full game and I can't say I ever regretted it. I also frequent the offical boards, and I have yet to hear anyone complain they were disapointed. Thier support is great too, both paches released so far could have been sold as X-packs by most companies.

And when I consider how few good games(particulary TBS) are made these days, it seems well worth supporting a quality independent developer.

I'm just cynical about its lifespan for me, heroes of might and magic got resigned to my "if you're really really REALLY bored and doing your coursework looks interesting pile" and this game isn't too disimilar
Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendant, and to embrace them is to acheive enlightenment.

I don't think Dominions is very similar to HoMM. It dosn't really center around heroes, has many more spells and units, very different (IMO more realistic) battle system, and is province based. That dosn't necessarily mean you would like Dominions, but I don't think HoMM makes a good comparison.

Try raising the province defense rating of border provinces. This also deters the AI fom declaring war in the first place.

I always loved AOE2, but I don't know if that qualifies as a strategy game.

                  Pax Africanus-

A good one that nobody has mentioned so far is Simcity 4. I don't know if that's the kind of thing you're looking for, but it's a good strategy game. Have you played any of the Simcity series?
