    • Nope. Was I the only one that played this one?

      Clues
      1. Late '80s, C64 (perhaps others, but I doubt it).
      2. RPG, non-standard.
      3. Non-standard is a telling clue here.
      4. I had lots of trouble with this one. You will lose party members continually.
      5. Combat was realtime and preventing friendly fire was difficult due to characters bent on walking into other characters firing path.
      6. Big clue: Sci-Fi theme.

          • Is it the Buck Rogers game from SSI?

            • That would have been my first guess, but no. And I'm surprised that it did not come up yet, given the clues...but IIRC the combat was not realtime in BR.

              • That's right... Buck Rogers was turn-based.

I seem to recall a games workshop "space marines" type game, but I can't remember the name. Am I warm?

                • Space 1889 ? - Victorian England in Space although i can't remember which format i played on and i might be a few years out with the year - so not an inspired guess really.

The other one that springs to mind is Laser squad but that was turn based i think.

                  • I found the name of the game I was thinking of: Space Crusade

                      • he he 'Found' is a bad thing here Gooogle-ing forfits any guess's you may have made and even browseing retro sights can count against you(as i found out....).

So just deny everything and say it was a slip of the tongue(finger!)

I didn't know they did a C64 version of Space Cruade - it was one of my favourite team/2 player games on the Amiga, i seem to remember the combat was turn based though (where as Space Hulk was Real time - with pause effects)

                          • Not found (or at least, not confirmed), I just couldn't remember the exact name of the game I was guessing, so I did a search and provided a link.

The "browsing of retro sites" happened after the guess(by way of confirmation), not before (as ammunition for scattershot guessing).

                            • Well it looks like a good shot to me, if it was on the C64 that is.

I'm pretty sure it was. Then again it was my friend's Commodore 64 that I played it on... I had a Vic-20.
