  • Mafia 8 - Sign Up Now!

Well, the last game finished rather quickly, and I didn't get enough time to enjoy being a GM. So, you get stuck with me for another round.

A couple things I wanted to clear up while we are at it, though.

First, what did people think about the background story? Should I put in the time for the next game to come up with something, or did it not add too much? Put the response to that into the poll please.

Secondly. I declare a new set of rules for the next game. The changes aren't great, but I'd like to run them by folks before we get going:

    1. No more two-round rule! Having people vote for someone they don't think is the Mafia just to make a tie is artificial and not much fun, IMO.

    2. When there is a tie, I will kill both contenders. Be they innocent, or the Mafia, I don't care. All the tied folks will die. (The reason, again, is I greatly dislike the recent tend of people going: "Ooh, let's make a tie, so that we could figure out who the Mafia is by seeing who is let to live!" )

It seems, however, that we might have a problem here that all the games would be too short. Indeed, both of these rules were made to make the games last longer. Any suggestions on what alternatives we could implement? (Well, I was thinking about one before: anybody who mentions the word "tie" in the thread dies immediately, regardless of the reasons for mentioning that word, but then I thought it might be a little too much. )

If you implement rule 1, then there is no incentive for people to attempt to create ties. Thus no real need for rule 2.
While I would prefer a tie to be settled by the roll of a dice (so to speak), its likely that rules for handling this situation will be largely acedemic. I doubt ties will feature much.

      Regardless, I'm in this game.

Can I sign up twice? Maybe that way one of me will survive until the we get the Mafia.

Oh, and the background story is great.
I like how the existing "roles" people played (me being a bartender, Rah the innkeeper, etc) were preserved in the expanded version. They were well-written too, always a good thing. Keep it up.

            I loved the backstory.

However, if you must give clues, try to err on the side of obscure. Having the first victim get his head bashed in with a hammer is a bit of a tipoff towards the village blacksmith. (I was a dead man either way, but just for the sake of keeping the game going this time.)

Oh, and I completely agree with the elimination of the two round rule.

However, I don't think ties should result in both people getting axed; people will still try to manipulate the ties in order to double the chance that the Mafia is killed.

I think it would be interesting to have a secret PM ballot. People could still post in the thread and say "I vote for such-and-such because blah blah blah," but in reality their real PM vote went to so-and-so. Obviously, you would only present the final vote tally, and not enumerate each individual vote.

Yeah... Sorry, Guynemer... I kinda realized I may have not thought the kills through well enough... Problem was: when I wrote the first kill, I was thinking rather about a carpenter's hammer.

                Something like this:

I hadn't even thought about the possibility of people associating it with the blacksmith.... I'll try to be more careful next time.

Bah, don't sweat it. Like I told you in the PM even before the game started, I figured I was a dead man.

And a full support for the backgound story and for the elimination of the two-round rule.
