Baldur's Gate II. BGI had a great plot, possibly marginally better even, but BGII is just a better game, gameplay-wise, IMHO. Both are fantastic though. Those and Alpha Centauri are the only games I really still play. I must get Fallout though, everyone seems to think it's great

I have some trouble to consider the PC "Role Playing Games" as something more than adventure games, the role playing part in them being very limited.

Best "PC Adventure Game" I have played: Planescape Torment

"Paper" Role Playing Games I like:

          Talislanta
          Space 1889
          Castle Falkenstein
          MegaTraveller
          Fading Suns
Legend of the Five Rings / Rokugan
          Fudge

RuneQuest II will always have a special place as this is the first real Role Playing Game I have played, we have played a campaign for five years... it was a long time ago.

I think I'll go with Ultima VII, allthough I did like FF 7 alot.

I may have to try Planescape Torment, and I am convinced I will now try Fallout, since Icewind Dale turned out to be anti-climatic. But I do like Infinity engine games.

To me, Ultima's quest solving was hte best of any RPG, actually being required to use telekenesis to move a lever, or needing to put a barrel of powder against a door to open it...... and the ability to do whatever you want, no matter how absurd... even kill Lord British himself..... it was, and I believe still is, the most dynamic RPG ever.

64 posts and no one mentioned a Bard's Tale? Fine bunch of adventurers you all are...

Bard's Tale was incredible for its time, but there have many drastic improvements since then.

Kinda like LoTR. JRR Tolkien was a genious for bringing such epic visionary to a fantasy novel. But compared to many epic stories since then its boring, uneventful drivel.

Bard's Tale is good for nostalgia.

I remember spells like Manger's Mallet or the Dream spell. Gross is the only description for them.

Fallout is a very close second
Ultima Underworld gets an honourable mention
