  • I remember Empire, I really liked that game but that was quite awhile after this one. Not Theatre Europe or chess.

    2) It had territories and is the first game I can remember that had a map editor for you to make your own maps and territories to fight over.

    • Maybe Defender of the Crown?

      • I didn't think Defender of the Crown had editable territories.

          • Sorry, I mean Wargame construction set. UMS was the same thing only later. I still get them confused.

Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

              • We had that too.

                • Could it be some sort of version of Risk? (I haven't heard of those in C64 though...)
I'm not a complete idiot: some parts are still missing.

No, but as you can see, I posted the guess at about the same time as you posted clue two. I didn't see it.

                    • No to all the above.

                      3) It had resources with which you fought over and used to build units. Iron, Gold, and Pastureland were three of the resources.

                      • I think I've played a pc-conversion of that kind of game. I believe the name of the game was 'Stronghold'... or am I completely lost?

                        • That's a recent game. However, I sure can't think of a C64 era game that fits those clues.

                          • was it one of the early versions of 'Vikings - fields of conquest' - i played and loved the amiga version, but i believe there were earlier versions that may have started on the 8bits?

                            Link

This is one link to the amiga english version(it had a german version too)

EDIT: to get to the page i linked to you have to jump through two hoops - click 'Skip' to get through the adverts on both Apolyton and 'Gameszone'(whatever it is) if you get them.

                            • Link didn't work. This is the first video game I can remember that had resources (outside of M.U.L.E) that dictated the military troops you could build. I'm amazed no one has guessed it, I thought it was easy.

                              4) It allowed up to four players and their territory was displayed by different colors.

Next clue will be a screenshot.

                              • Something reminds me of "The Ancient Art of War" but it doesn't really fit the clues altogether.
