  • Poly chess ch. group 1 MtG - ljcvetko

If you're too busy to keep track of this many games (since you've got a lot going by replacing zorbop), then you can let this one trail behind. I figured I'd at least get the thread started.

Not at all, I'll enjoy a game with you.

    Going against grandmaster Tarrasch's advice.

Going against a lot of people's advice, but I was always too lazy to get into all the variations of the Ruy Lopez, so King's Gambit was my opening of choice against 1. ... e5.

        I don't know why I played 1... e5.
        I wanted to play 1... d5.

        It's never too late though

        1. e4 e5
        2. f4 d5

Dr. Tarrasch wouldn't have been pleased.

            Playing only pawns

It's contrary to former champion Alekhin's theories of centre control by means other than pawns.

Ah well, what the hell, it's pawn dance right now.

(It's not necessary to emphasise with an x symbol that a piece was captured. Nevertheless, I respect your stile of notation and we may continue this way.)

By the way, what's the English name for pieces other than pawns (i.e. a common name for queens, rooks, bishops and knights)?

I normally do the short form algebraic because I was addicted to ECO (oh for the days of ECO updates and the Yugoslav Chess Federation) and Shakhmatny Byuletin, but I noticed more people here using the longer "x" version.

Pieces other than pawns are generically referred to just as "pieces"

I'm more used to this short notation by far.

Yeah, you know I'm from Belgrade, capital of former Yugoslavia.

You are saying ECO is not being updated today?
                Believe me it is.
You can order a CD with complete set of ECO together with all volumes of Chess Informant save the last two for a few hundred dollars.

I haven't seen anything more recent than the last five volume printed set from about 1984.

                  If you've got a link, I'd

No, I live in Tijuana, Mexico, but work in San Diego, California.

The name reflects my regional political sympathies, rather than my birth certificate.

The avatar was for the second anniversary of the 9-11 attack. I decided to keep it for the rest of September, so Wednesday I'll have something new.

I'm going to have limited internet access the rest of this week, since I'm in the middle of moving. I'll be online work hours only. Sorry.

Well, the only chiquita I get to spend money on is my daughter, but that's ok. Next I'll be at is my son's 3rd birthday. New toys!
