Give me the perfect infinite free turnbased RPG with 2nd edition AD&D rules (and the 3rd edition magic tweaks) and up to 8 characters in a party up to level 1-36 with a whole series of "big quests" (i.e. the gold box games, as one game, with a new interface, and more freedom) and I'll have my perfect game

I'll second that I might even buy that game before it hit the bargain bin

I play different games for different things. For example, if I have some aggression I need to use up, I will play a FPS and kill a bunch of computer players. For this, the many FPS around are adequate.

If I want to be drawn into a whole new world as RPGs attempt to do though, I will come up with a blank. There aren't many games that will do this to even a fraction of what a perfect RPG should be. So if I had to pick only 1 genre that could be perfected in a game, it would be RPG.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

If you know the right people, multiplayer RPGs can do that for you. Even MMORPGs can get to the "fraction" level sometimes.

Play Morrowind. It's amazing in immersion.

I voted for RPG, but really, the perfect game will cross genres. The best action games are those that added RPG elements (like a DAMNED STORY and skill attributs)... with the exception of GTA3, but that had a whole city which you could tackle in any way you really wanted (kinda RPGish in that way).

The most perfect games are Go (name of the game) first then chess.
In PC, a perfect game would be a perfect Civ, but that would be impossible.

Whatever kind of game Super Mario Brothers is. I don't know if any of these options fit.

                    Have you tried Morrowind?

For me, it has to be an ultimate Civilization game. Why? The replay value... Which game would you like to bring with you to an isolated island? Puzzle solving games and FPS are fun the first few times, but once you're done with the quests and know where the bad guys are...

No, give me a brilliant strategy game and I'll happily let the next 5 to 7 years of my life go down the drain to join with my past!

Ultimate civ game. But what I have in mind would be so complex it would make programmers go apoplectic.

Morrowind style (but not Morrowind, that game has so much wrong with it it's unplayable).

I want a game that has complex character develpment and requires a lot of strategy to make your guy tough

                          I want a kickass storyline

I want ridiculously large environment with ridiculous view distance. I want to be able to see that mountain in the background 5 or 10 miles away and then actually be able to get to it eventually.

I want multiplayer, not necessarily MMORPG style but at least 4-8 players on a lan or something.

I want it to be visually incredible

I want totally interactive environments to the point where everything you interact with matters in some way

                          _____________

I could also go for a good new fighter. Tekken Tag Tournament was awesome and it's been all downhill for the genre from there.

Similarly, I could use a good TBS game. SMAC was awesome and it's been all downhill from there, too. Lucky for everyone, we're making Candle'Bre (eventually )

There is a MMORPG that is making this one of it's main features - Dark and Light

My favorite games are like those old Sid Meier games like Pirates and Sword of the Samurai- action/adventure games where you can enter higher and higher strata of strategy in the game.
