  • Bush may not be on Alabama ballot in 2004

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (AP) -- Unless Alabama's election law is changed, there could be one notable candidate missing from the state's 2004 presidential election ballot -- President Bush.
The problem is that the Republican National Convention is being held later than usual to avoid conflict with the Olympics, and the GOP won't choose a candidate until September 2 -- two days after Alabama's August 31 deadline to certify presidential contenders.
Republicans are asking the Democrat-controlled Legislature to change the law and extend the deadline until September 5.

After the Florida debacle, it'd be interesting to see what happens if all the Republicans there have to vote him in as a writein.

    i find it amusing.

alabama would definitely go for bush, since it has a tendency to vote republican for national elections along with most of the south...

Avoid conflicts with the Olympics? I am glad these people have all their priorities straighten out.

Well if they held it during the Olympics they wouldn't get the same network coverage.

After all, it is just a political convention.

You know, in some countries Political conventions include "debates" where the delegates set "policy".
