I have been seeing them. Homosexuals who are bible thumpers. That seems to be a contradiction in terms to me. Isn't the bible full of anti-homesexual references? I'm no bible expert, so I'm not sure. I figure that is the reason why religious people hate homosexuals so much.

What's the deal with Jesus loving homosexuals?

Dissident, as fellow Vox PBEM member and a gay man...please don't go down this road...I know you can find more creative subjects to talk about.____________________________

Homosexuality has always been considered a detrimit to society because of its inability to (naturally) produce an offspring. In many many civilizations large families were encouraged and sometimes designed by law. So homosexuality has by many been considered wrong not just the bible.
Now things have changed and large families are no longer required. As such Homosexuals have become mroe accepted.
Do I agree with homosexuality? no
Do I agree they have a right to live their lives and do what makes them happy (as long as they don't hurt anyone)? yes"People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid."

You can't really understand homosexuality unless you are homosexual (or at least have the tendencies). I myself consider homosexuality as nature's birth control...but I digress...
Thank-you for your caveats Wtiberon.____________________________

Jesus never mentioned homosexuality wrt the Bible nor did anything he say imply disapproval. Many "Christians" get around that reality by claiming his reference to "I did not come to change the law, but to fulfill the law" statement was an endorsement of the Old Testament. But Jesus did speak out against OT practices and laws (such as divorce and penalties for working on the Sabbath). When Jesus referred to fulfilling the law, he was talking about fulfilling the essence or goal of the law, the 2 "commandments" he gave - love God and love others. He said the entire law of the prophets rested on these 2 commandments. But if that was true, then the laws of Moses should also be based on those 2 commandments. That creates a problem since Moses and some of his clan murdered a man for collecting firewood on the Sabbath. That's hardly an act of love for thy neighbor and Jesus was condemned for "laboring" on the Sabbath as well. Now, it does appear that Paul did condemn homosexual acts (between men at least) so if you consider Paul a spokesman for Jesus, then it would be logical to believe Jesus did too. But that creates a BIG problem for me because Paul also condoned slavery and no amount of spin from his apologists can change that fact, and that would mean Jesus condoned slavery. Sorry, that would make Christianity an immoral religion and I see no evidence from what Jesus said to reach such a conclusion. Therefore, I consider real Christianity to be based strictly on what Jesus allegedly said and not on what Paul or others said...The irony is that we have to rely on Paul and the others for Jesus' teachings which makes the situation even more muddled...

And what was the OT penalty for adultery? Death? But not only did Jesus defend an adulteress from being punished, he said adultery of the heart was also adultery (uh oh). I can't understand why there are any laws against adultery in the USA when the majority claims to be Christian. At least the men who were going to stone the adulteress defended by Jesus dropped their stones and walked away in shame when he basicly called them hypocrites, in this country the majority is still casting their "stones" in the name of Jesus.

Doesn't the Bible list homosexuality as a sin, but alongside gluttony in impact?
Plus it's in Leviticus, along with all those weird-ass things like 'if you contract mildew you must go and see a priest who shall place you in quarantine for two weeks until you are clean blah blah blah'...
Bottom line. Jesus came to update the Old Testament and fix what had been misinterpreted, however creatively. Love and acceptance were his tenets, and if any part of the Bible is to be followed, surely it's the Gospels - those parts that came directly from God/Jesus himself."Love the earth and sun and animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown . . . reexamine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency" - Walt Whitman

I thought it was Paul that dumped all of those weird Leviticus laws?"Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way. "
