  • Terrorism in our favorite games?

Just another random willy-thought, and first time in Apolyton Off-Topic:
By now some in the Alpha Centauri forum have noticed that my comments sometimes (often?) border on the bizarre. They have also been considered irritating and even provocative, and that is really not intended. I have a knack of choosing the wrong words at the worst times.
That said, reading through this thread: Interesting Terraforming Method (?), and having in mind the current sorry state of international relations in the real world, a though occurred to me. I didn't want to sidetrack that thread or soil that forum with what might be considered off-topic there, but I just want to share an observation (one that has probably already been visited here at Apolyton):
In SMAC, there is in interesting differentiation with regard to what could be considered several methods of unconventional warfare, even terrorism.
Biological and Chemical attacks (Probe Team Gene Warfare and Nerve Gas, not sure about Soporific Gas?), as well as Nuclear warfare (Planet Busters) and Genocide (obliterating a base), are all considered atrocities, and incur various degrees of penalties.
But suicide bombing (self-destructing) is apparently an acceptable method of reducing enemy forces (since it carries no penalties)?
I am on a mission to see how much coffee it takes to actually achieve time travel.

Why couldn't you have posted this in the AC forum so we could get +1s?

      DD: You post whore.

gwillybj: Welcome... I think terrorism SHOULD be in our games that try to deal with real issues. Why? Because it is a fact of life.

        Says the deity.

Speaking of terrorism in games, does anyone know how Generals is? I'd comment on AC if I could ever get it to work on my new comp.

            Bolding is mine.

Attacking forces is fine, attacking civilians is not.

Also, it seems to be entirely acceptable to:

              a) Attack civilian infrastructure (sabotage facilities, bombard terraforming)

              b) Deliberately starve people by reassigning workers or occupying food-producing areas.

Why doesn't Saddam simply terraform the ocean near New York?

In AC you can sink cities that way.

Unless of course if you are the US administration, then anything you don't like is terrorism. They've been calling the iraqi suicide bombers who attacked american soldiers terrorists.
