  • Scum or not?

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Montgomery County Police Chief Charles Moose Monday appealed a county ethics commission ruling that bars him from profiting from his autobiography focused on last October's sniper spree.

Should this guy be able to profit from the deaths of so many? To me, there does seem to be something wrong with that. Let him write the book... but the money should go to the families at least. And it's not like this guy busted the case wide open. Oh, if this has already been been posted just delete it.

But he would be a scum bag if he profited on this whole deal. Bad Moose!!

    Similar happens almost every day.
Someone will write a book for profit; he might as well, too.

    Still scummy.

As long as he's in office, he should not be allowed to profit off of it.

Once he's out of office, I have no problem with it.

So since he's still in office, I vote scum.

Can't say he can't write because he's in office.

Precedent has been set by Vincent Bugliosi, writing about Charles Manson.

The criminals aren't allowed to do this, so I don't see why the police should be.

I don't see anything wrong with this. I think he would bring a unique perspective to the case. And make money to boot. Good old fashioned capitalism.

If a heart surgeon writes a book about his exploits, is he "profiting" off of his patients, even the ones he lost?

"Even criminals have a right to publish books about their crimes," said Washington College of Law Professor Jamin Raskin, a member of Moose's legal team. "If hitmen for the mob and mass murderers have a First Amendment right to write and publish books about crime, why don't police chiefs?"

it would seem they can... but they are scum already.

They can publish. They just can not profit from thier crimes after the Son of Sam laws were passed.

So, if someone writes a book about WW2, the profit should go to war victims?

Doesn't impact my personal opinion. Vote SCUM. on Bugliosi also.

The heart surgeon isn't directly being paid by taxpayers money. Or in a government appointed/voted position. But I agree since medicare and other types may be indirectly being paid to him that this area is a bit more gray. But not enough for me to vote scum.
