  • Brits -- Best Allies Ever?

They had every justifiable reason to say no on this one but they still had America's back.

First ones in on 9-11 too.

Couldn't ask for a better friend.

    UK!

Yes, friends indeed. I even like Tony Blair now! He paid a huge political price for his stand but then so did Winston Churchill.

Well, they could have gone with the Germany-France-Benelux coalition...

as if the franco-germanic axis with the low countries has any truly formidable economic, military, or political might...

no, the twenty-first century world will revolve around an america struggling to find a mission, and a resurgent china flexing its muscles.

britain is clinging to a power that is at least more similar to them in traditions.

Somehow I ended up not liking mr Blair for some reason. He gives a good show when he speaks, smiling and being very professinoal but something doesn't match. He's a weirdo.

Man, how can you diss Howard and the Aussies that way?

I mean Tony is so needy, calling for things like moving with the ME peace deal and giving george a hard time about how much UN involvement there will be..

But Howie, Howie keeps his mouth shut and does as he is told!

                    Go Australia!

But I admit he had big sacks to go with this, since it wasn't very popular in UK at the beginning.. it was possible suicide politically. But then again security matters are not popularity contests, or decided by gallups and polls.

UK carries more political weight around the world than anyone else except for America. The UK brings a certain level of "legitimacy" to political matters.

If UK was with the European Union then it might actually offer a political counterweight.

Not only that, like I said, you're missing the point, they had every right to say no and Americans would have understood but they helped out anyway.

Like we understood with all the other allies that said no?

And oyu are still selling the Aussies short..Howard faced an even more skeptical public..
