  • Greatest Love Songs: 1980s

Hey fellows, to take away from all the horrors of discussing war and death and taxes, I'm gonna start a new series of threads regarding what we think are the best songs of a category of a decade. Genre doesn't matter in this case: just make a case for the songs. Since I'm starting the thread...I'll start off.

"I'll Be There For You" - Bon Jovi

I've always felt that Jon Bon Jovi was one of the greatest lyricists of hairband rock. This song is filled with innocent emotion, and the guitar riffs are both catchy and worth remembering, especially in the intro. Perhaps the lyrics that sum up this song are "Words can't say what love can do/I'll be there for you."

"And So It Goes" - Billy Joel

This song epitomizes the unending love for a person, even though that person has moved on. This song refrains from being overly dramatic about the failed relationship while maintaining its belief that doing what's right for the other person is in itself a loving maneuver.
"I predict your ignore will rival Ben's" - Ecofarm
    ^ The Poly equivalent of:
"I hope you can see this 'cause I'm [flipping you off] as hard as I can" - Ignignokt the Mooninite

Taste of Cindy is indeed a great song though, decades irrelevant.

I guess you could argue that Night Shift is a love song about Marvin Gaye, though it isn't a "love song" per se.

                            Different songs.

My vote goes to the greatest one hit wonder ever: Come On Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners.

I would never, EVER, be so bold as to proclaim one sont the greatest anything, especially "One Hit Wonder".
What about Reflections Of My Life, Marmalade?

Danged old Monolith and I have a lot the same tastes.
