  • What's a regime?

Kerry called for a "regime change" here in the US. I looked at it this way, the US has a democratic government, Iraq has a rigime. Regime to me is dictatorship kind of thing. Is that correct?

No, a regime is any political system:
    definition:

regime: a form of government or rule, a particular administration or government, a social system or order, the period of time that a person or system is in power.

Thus any government is a regime, though we like to give it negative connotations.

As GePap said, regime is not specific to a government system.

But the word evil is said silently right before you say regime. I guarantee the new Iraq government won't be called a regime until after they piss us off.

Thanks for answering my question. So there's nothing wrong with saying something like 'Clinton regime' or 'Kennedy regime'.

          Thanks.

theres nothign wrong with that by definition, but people associate "regime" with an abhorant system of government.

the correct term for america is "administration", ie "The Bush Administration".

but, if you think clinton was evil (and he was) call him a regime

Clinton may have been evil, but he sure was fun to watch.

Clinton was more of a regular guy than Bush was. I doubt anyone'll be able to convince him to run again, though.

Neither Clinton nor Bush are evil. The only evil American President in last 50 years was Richard Nixon.

Bush wasn't evil. But Bush II is.
