So do most of us. We just don't presume to dictate to women what "their place" is or should be. That's there's to choose, and if a woman's ambition is to stay at home, knit, have dinner ready by six and get her man a beer when he wants one, that's her choice and more power to her.

If she wants to join the Army, and she performs as required in her MOS, then more power to her. The point is that is is up to each individual to choose their own goals in life, it is not up to a bunch of patronizing whites, males, or any other group to define the place of others.

There's a difference between treating a woman with consideration and courtesy, and being condescending and patronizing.

First of all when did I say that she did not belong in the Army and she should be home baking cookies? Also when did I presume to "dictate" anything about her? Finally, why is rescuing a "damsel" (i.e. young woman as opposed to young hermorphrodite) condensending? Should we pretend that she is not a woman?

In other words, she is a lady and a soldier. I doubt seriously if she resents the fact that she is a lady as some do here.

I have spent some time in West Virginia and I agree completely. This story is about the best I have heard coming from the war and it certainly shows America's finest from all sides.

I agree. Hardly a Damsel in Distress.
In fact, I'll go so far as to say that the captors should be feeling rescued themselves.
