There was a tug a war where Powell wanted to use over welling force and bring a half million man Army into Iraq (the Powell doctrine calls for using over welling force or no force at all) while Rumsfield (a former Air Force Pilot insisted the planes and PGMs could do it a la Afghanistan with only a small ground force (he originally said 60k to 150k) to mop up the Iraqis. History shows that an "Air power alone" approach is doomed to failure but Rumsfield was successful in keeping the number of troops down to 250k instead of the 500k Powell thought was necissary.Originally posted by Spiffor

I'm not claiming the war would have been won in one week. I'm merely saying your strategy widely underestimated the Iraqi resistance, and widely overestimated the warm welcome your troops will get.
