  • China Finally Starts Reigning in North Korea

Just a friendly reminder to their client about who supplies the oil...

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

The chinese are obviosuly wary of anyting that might draw away investors. Good move on their part.

Good. It appears now that China has its communist leadership issues cleared up, it is now taking concrete steps to warn its friends in North Korea to control themselves and their nuclear ambitions.

It'll be interesting to see how effective it is... I hope very. If it is, it'll be a good demonstration of non-military "persuasion".

His comment came a day after Mr Kim skipped North Korea's one-day annual parliament session for the first time in six years.
Looks like the NK parliament is exceptionally efficient.

                            This is good news.

But you need to check your spelling because I got a very surprised feeling when I saw the title of this thread.

Statement 1: "China starts reigning in North Korea."

Statement 2: "China starts reining in North Korea."

These two sentences are not the same. The first one means that China has somehow managed to seize control of North Korea. The second one (which is the one you mean, I think) means that China has begun to apply pressure on North Korea to behave itself.

FINALLY! Really great news, thanks for the posting!

I hope this is an early sign of what to expect from the new Chinese leadership. Maybe they are taking their responsibility for NK more seriously.

It strikes me as sharply ironic that Chinese media ceaselessly criticizes the US for unilateralism in Iraq, while insisting that the US take a unilateral approach with North Korea.

More good news from China: the Great Firewall is open again! After months of blackout, I can read the Washington Post, NY TImes, etc again. Hooray!
