  • Are Your Views Changed?

I must confess I am at heart a setimentalist and romantic....

I can't help but being swayed by powerful images.

I still believe that the American invasion was illegal, and on spurious pretexts of terrorism and 'WoMD', and an dangerous precedent (imagine China taking 'pre-emptive action' against a 'rogue state').....

But on the other hand you see these images and read the stories and you just can't help but think that it's a good thing that SOMEONE is invading, and that maybe all the people the Yanks kill off are somehow 'acceptable losses' or something for an (well I won't say 'free Iraq' cause it won't be) but for an Iraq without Saddam and his clan in charge.

Or whatever....am I just falling victim to the mil-ind-church complexes control over the media and having my opinion crafted? Or what.......this is an unfinished thought.

By the way, here in Korea I am harangued by strangers on the street for 'Bushie' even though I'm
    a. not American
    b. don't support this war
    c. Even if I was 'min-gook' (american) that doesn't automatically make me responsible for all the US govmn'ts ****.

I should get that on a t-shirt, it would save me time in Korea....

Yes, It's always a good idea to wear a Canadian flag when traveling abroad. There are even some Americans who do it.

Well, despite I have a lot of criticism for Bush´s policy there´s no doubt for me that I´m supporting the coalition forces since direct combat has begun. The alternative (Saddam) it just no option for me.

Of course it is not easy to support the US with all the Anti Euro-trolling here which is a troll in itself

Here's an interesting 'watercooler' (or, in this case, coffee machine) argument we had last week.

Our staff (asylum?) is made up of mixed Amies, Canuckleheads, and Aussies.

Stacey, a Canadian, got a bunch of the 'patches' the stitch on Canadian flags for backpacks, also known as the International Please Don't Beat Me patch.

Wade, a Yank from Maryland, took a little offense to that and called Canadians 'cop out Americans' and said that by wearing the patch we were not being Canadian patriots, but anti-Americans since what it means is 'I'm NOT American', not 'I'm Canadian' for a lot of people.

Of course his mood wasn't helped by the other Americans wanting patches, but ya know.....

My views won't change (or should I say my mind won't be made up) for a long time yet. I think the effects of this will go way beyond the war itself. I'm going to defer judgement for at least 10 years.
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

                  My opinions haven´t changed.

I still don´t support the war or the policies of George W. Bush.

The only thing that has changed is, that i´ve lowered my estimated for civilian casualties as a result of the Bombing Raids over Baghdad from "more than 100.000" to " maybe lower than 10.000", but this doesn´t include potential dvivilian casualties from street fightings on the ground or secondary civilian casualties (for example people having to drink non-potable water and dying from resulting diseases or Poisonings, because water purification plants were bombed or have no electricity), so I think the overall civilian casualties of the war might still exceed 100.000.

This would be all well and good if there was actually going to be some sort of democracy enforced in Iraq after Saddam has been eradicated, but, if things go the same way as they did in Afghanistan (and knowing the Bush administration it will), they'll just replace it with another tyrannical regime which is more pro-US (for now).

I stay clear of live news to waste my time on this forum. My information source is 'Poly, the 20:00 TV news, and the French communist newspaper. So all in all, I haven't been swayed by the hype. My views have neraly not changed, ecept that I know hope for a swift victory of the USUK, now that war has begun. I still believe this war shouldn't have begun.

So for him, it's not alright for non-Americans to wear a Canadian flag patch because it's "Anti-American" but I suspect he'd be the kind of person who wears an American one because it's patriotic.

                          If so, he's an idiot.

Now that the war has officially commenced, I'd like to see it completed. A half-finished war is worse than any other alternative in this; we need Bush to drown in mud and not just have it splattered on him (or we need him to make Iraq into a shining beacon of democracy).
