  • Conforting Music in times of War

    Hola,

Being such dark times as these are, I was wondering if some of you have taken into listening certain particular songs or albums (and please don't mention "Killing an Arab" by the Cure).

Well, my two choices for albums have been "Sandinista!" by The Clash and "War" by U2. Both have some pretty good anti-war lyrics and the songs rock, even though they were written during the Cold War, I think the feelings behind them are applicable today.

Rancid's "Life Won't Wait" also comes to mind...

    BTW

I wonder if pilots in the gulf still listen to "Rock The Casbah" before a sortie like they did in gulf war I.

REM - It;s the end of the world
    U2 - Sunday bloody Sunday
    Powerman 5000 - Superbeast

Funniest thing I remember out of WTC incident was shortly after everyone's shock wore off, my suitemate played out loud REM's song. While it was unrealistic, it was kinda appropriate.
    :-p

That'd be Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" for me

Every time I hear it I pictures Stukas screaming down upon a refugee-clogged road

Yep you got a point there, but there is many different kinds of music that can have the same effect

"Rock and Roll" by Led Zeppelin .
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

There's an old one from the Vietnam days written by John Prine making the rounds again I hear:

"Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore"

                              The next line goes:

"It's already overcrowded from your dirty little war."
