    D'oh!

Pentagon Confirms Missiles May Have Struck Iran -- Two Pentagon officials now confirm that three U.S. cruise missiles may have gone astray in Iran. The officials say U.S. and Iranian officials are discussing the matter and that Iran realizes that any hit was unintentional.

Well that doesn't seem right. I mean, if those missiles could go that far off course, what's happening near where those missiles are supposed to be landing>

I would hope that it's simply a matter of their intended targets being that damned close to the border with Iran...

        ...otherwise, "Opps..."

mechanical failure is the great equalizer when it comes to weaponry.

so our smart bomb can realize it's failing and scream "f*ck" as it falls to earth.

A problem in the people operating the weapons, I think we should fix them.

There are two reasons for them to go off course - damage to control surfaces from AAA fire or lucky smallarms fire, and misprogramming of target coordinates.

Considering there are three strays out of a couple hundred that have been fired, this sounds like another big to me.

Just to be clear: it's not three strays out of a couple hundred. It's three strays acknowledged out of a couple hundred. I think Che's point about how well or poorly the rest are hitting their targets is well taken; this administration, even more than Bush I, has a strong interest in downplaying (i.e., lying about) civilian casualties.

This reminds me of the missile that hit the chinese embassy in Belgrade, in 1999.
