If that's not what you mean, and if you agree that it's better right now, but still not the best place to live, than just say "I agree with you CS"

Yes, I forgot - with us or against us. I don't agree with you, so I must be some sort of evil stinking terrorist that supports dictators and eats babies.

I have repeatedly said that the new government is better, and that is good, but the improvements are minimal. I think that it is only in the cities that you see any change - women are allowed to go out on the streets, and you can buy all the western merchandise you want. Outside of the cities, I doubt it really matters to the people who is in charge.

In a sense, the USA was lucky that the Taliban was such a horrible regime so that they could gain support. Looking at their Saudi allies, they clearly have no problem with these sorts of fanatic and oppresive regimes, as long as they do what the USA says.

I don't expect Afghanistan to have improved over night, not with the decades of war it has seen (especially having been a playground for the soviets and americans during the cold war). But the USA has not made any serious effort in improving the situation, they merely joined in on the ongoing war and blew things up untill they got what they wanted, and let things carry on as they have for the past few decades. Afghanistan still does not have the money or resources it needs, even with international support, while the USA continues to spend trillions of dollars in it's warmongering.

As for those quotes, they're mostly just the usual "good times ahead!" beurocrat talk. (and, i might add, have nothing to do with the USA) I certainly don't remember there ever being elections, just a president appearing out of nowhere - but maybe I am wrong on that, though.

Eitherway, you don't get much news on afhanistan now that the USA has shot it's load. I'll admit to being as ignorant about it as anyone else - but I have made an effort to find out how it has changed and all i found was stories on how it is short of money, political parties are being arrested, people being beaten, the fighting between warlords, ect...

    • Do you see why I don't see any reason to take these protestors seriously?
Silly people with surrealistic views on the world.

And in fact egecentric people who in fac say nothing different but "Hey, people of Iraq, we don't care about you! Deal with your dictator yourself, we love peace so we won't help you"

and saying that is "a lot of fun"

I hope you guys have "a cool day" again today!
People are dying! And you can protest! your dinner will be ready tonight! And usually other people have earned it for you!

      There are people being tortured
      there are people starving
      there are people being surpressed
there are people who have suffered under mass destruction weapons

and you say "keep talking to the man who did it! Till eternity!"

Most people I hear from the anti-war campagin voice nothing but extreme-leftish bs.
But go ahead! Move yourself among the short-sighted of the earth!

"Make love, not war" sounds good! Unfortunately our choise is not that easy. The world is not a computer game.

now go ahead with your silly signs and have a whole lot of fun!
people are being toturted around the world. that is not a reason to go in there and spend money and lives we dont have.

        • I don't think the protestors are against the troops, just against the diplomatic policy of Bush. I think a lot more countries would be for this war if it wasn't for Shrub's Unilateralism (Thank heavens Colin Powell told the chickenhawks to shut up and go to the UN). Cheney and Rummy f*cked up in getting support for the war and wonder why people are mad at them, what a bunch of lunatics. I think the hero in all this in Powell, as he tried to tell the chickenhawks to shut up. When it comes to diplomacy, I think Cheney and Rummy have all the power, Bush is just thier tool to make thier policy look legitamate. In my book Cheney is worse than Kissinger.

Looks like a loser and is hopeless with women as well - which explains why he loves the chickenhawk stance so much - I mean what could be more manly than talking with feigned competence about "fire zones" and having a hard on for a war you won't personally fight.

I don't know about you, but I find it obnoxious when weedish little dorks start getting militaristic - definitely a sign of major sexual problems. Maybe they should just get laid...
This post is almost too stupid to respond too, but I it is so funny I must.

I won't point out how it is wrong and racist. That is obvious. Because we know black people or latinos are all against war. Only white people have desires to kill.

And I suspect that post was directed at me. I'm not some comptuer geek. I have spent 8 years in the U.S. Navy. And I am much older than most of you. And while I may not be as intellient (all though I think I am ), I am certainly wiser with the ways the world works. Many of you are in high school and are taught how the world should be. Well the sad truth is the world is not that way.

And even after getting laid, I still have desires to go to war

                          • Most of these protesters are protest as a hobby. Doesn't matter what the issue is they feel important dressing in hippy clothes (yes most of them dress like it's 1969 or some crap).

It cracks me up when they strut off after being arrested like they are hard core or something.

                            • yes I agree. It is a fad.

What really cracked me up was the protestors throwing temper tantrums in SF. So childish.

What really gets me is these people think they are brave. it is not brave to protest in a nation with free speech. To do this in Iraq would be brave .

I can understand Rwanda, as the region has no support bases, and the U.S. would suffer very large casualties and would probably lose a war there. But maybe with worldwide support they could do it.
The US lobbied other UN members to pull out of Rwanda. What happened there was as much the fault of the US, if not more, than the UN.

The UN was doing something about Iraq, but the US just wanted an invasion.
